  1. For that sort of money you could get a Yilditz pro - Perazzi based action - which are way better than ATA.

Never buy a new gun, they lose money the minute you step out of the shop. You can pick up guns which someone has bought and, for whatever reason, didn't get on with them. Miroku, Beretta, Browning, Fabarm and many more to consider.

  2. Quote

That said at least Starmers team have a plan.

A plan which they haven't shared with anyone yet. I have no idea what Labour stands for. Let's catch the people smugglers not the illegals. A pipe dream. They won't get anywhere with that rubbish, but will be happy to import law breakers by the boat load.

  3. Run by John Webster - Webber on here - top lad. Easy access from the East Lancs Road.

Manchester Gun Club in Worsley Grange has had a truly awful access road for 30 years. Given the prices they charge, I would have thought they could have improved the road.

  4. Took 5mm off the pillars on the lathe. Fitted collars into the comb and screwed the mechanism down. First photo shows the wood platform in the stock. Looks messy, but strong enough. Just finished tapping the collars and inserted the grub screws. Nearly finished. just needs tidying up. Took the photo with the comb almost as high as it goes. It goes right to the bottom.

  5. Tried the mechanism in the void, just needed a quick file with the finger sander. The void around the mechanism looked a bit daunting, but shaped a piece to use as a platform for the mechanism and epoxied it in place. Rock solid. The hollows in the comb were filled with wood inserts and some sawdust. These were bedded in with wood glue. Not fully set yet.

Just dropped the mechanism in to check fit. Waiting for epoxy to dry.

Need to drill the comb to fit the bushes in and then install grub screws to control height.

  6. Looking at the inside of the Laurona Sporter stock, I realised why I had never seen one with an adjustable comb. Looking down to the stock bolt, I thought that there would be a void of some sort - larger than I had previously encountered, but it will get sorted.

  7. No idea why photos are on their side. Photos show what i started with, the tape applied and comb marked out. Then the comb cut out. The removal of that piece left a void in the remaining stock. I will glue in a piece at the top to support the mechanism. Last time I used a broom handle - perfect fit. The moveable comb will also need some wood to bring it all level.

The bandsaw which was remarkably easy to use. Cutting took just over a minute.

  8. In one of the links provided by Rewulf, I seem to recall that the amount of lead in a bird could have come from lead shot or from car engine emissions.

In terms of the lead free solder, it appears to have the same performance as lead solder and the same price. When the day arrives that manufacturers can provide shot / bullets with the same performance and price, which doesn't cause damage to a gun, I suspect no-one will take much convincing. I trust Conor O'Gorman won't say that the day as arrived, because Terry said so. If Terry said it was raining, I'm afraid I would need to go outside and check, as he was less than convincing.

In a rather bizarre response to Konor, Conor O'Gorman cast doubt on whether Konor had actually listened to the podcast. I have no idea why he would say such a frankly ridiculous thing, but Conor seemed quite proud of the game meat section. Terry seemed to see only one reason to go lead free - the commercial game market. He went on about that aspect so much, I was amazed that the  Carribean holidays, Carribean weather, replacing lead pipe on your own property only and wellies got a look in.

The environment, welfare of wee chicks etc. was given short shrift

  9. I will post a photo of what i started with and then update.

My new blade for the bandsaw arrived today (1/4" with 32 teeth per inch), but with other commitments and a trip to Scotland, it will be a week or so before I progress.

I nearly finished a second comb mechanism, whilst awaiting the new blade.

  10. The post from McSpredder was illuminating and depressing. I hadn't appreciated just how poor some of the "scientific" research was. I note that Conor O'Gorman, totally ignores the content of the post and yet again moves to deflect. Ironically, he is trying to get the thread back on track, instead of resorting to such telling points as:-

Listen to the podcast, it's very good and explains everything - which sadly it doesn't..

    What paper do you read?

Have you filled in the survey?

Read this link, it explains everything.

    Comedy gold.
