Syndicate places available on our small friendly and relaxed Mini Driven/Walked up shoot. Fortnightly wednesday shoots starting 10th October. Good mixed covers over 1000 acres. Woods, Gorse, Hedgerow and Marsh areas. 1500+ Birds put to wood plus plenty of wild quarry. You are right they were proposing an additional 14 day catching up period in Scotland after the end of the season but it hasn't been implemented as yet as far as I know. I suppose if the season was extended to Mar 1st then in theory catching up would also be extended but this wouldn't really promote good welfare or husbandry i.e. getting your laying flock on site, settled and in tip top condtion for laying.

Short tailed birds would still be a problem because in their infinite wisdom shoots would still take late August and September Poults in the belief that they eat less and dont have time to wander as far. Get them early and leave the seasons alone!! June/July Poults are far healthier. Besides which how will an extension allow keepers to catch up laying stock? There is no way birds will be caught up before the Jan deadline if there is commercial pressure to continue shooting through to March 1st.

I'm not sure how many adult birds a buzzard actually takes. Definitely an issue with poults but two weeks ago I saw 3 pheasant and a buzzard flushed in front of me from the edge of a stream during a walked up shoot. I saw the birds together on the ground previously and the pheasant were easily within reach of cover. Suppose they are like seals and Great Whites, get nailed when they can't see the predator first?
