  1. Worcestershire Game farm is well established and in my experience offers quality birds. I had chicks off him last year and they outperformed my other 4 suppliers by a good margin. Paul Jeavons doesn't head the GFA but does chair one of the committees. (I am also in the GFA). Hope this helps.
  2. We are based in Cheshire and are selling at £3.50 to £3.60 this year. Well done if you do a deal for much less than that and good luck matching the price if they don't turn up!!!
  3. There is nothing precluding you from a firearms or shotgun certificate with Parkinsons Disease itself. My father has it and still has his SGC. However the various combinations of drugs used to control the disease can cause side effects including hallucinations. With this in mind my father voluntarily transferred his shotguns to me so that no firearms are held in his property. This is more than likely what the firearms department will assess when deciding on an application either at renewal or if notified by your GP or Consultant.
  4. New rough shooting syndicate on Anglesey shooting 10 saturdays. Around 500 acres of proven ground with plenty of variety. Duck Pond, Marsh, Stream, Hedgerows and Covers. Pheasant and Mallard released. Plenty of wild mallard, snipe and woodcock. Limited to 6 members who are happy to get involved in limited amounts of feeding, pen construction and maintenance work. Local gamekeeper already involved to assist and secure the shoot. 4 Confirmed guns (3 from Wirral area). Ideally need Guns with spaniels. £550 per gun plus small contribution to capital costs. Genuine opportunity for some well priced shooting. Please PM me for more information.
  5. I was also interested in this club. Just about to move back there. If I'm not mistaken they were actively advertising for new members on BASC website last time I looked so I'd be surprised if there's still a long waiting list. Not sure what they have in land but always presumed it was along Newton Brook out towards Burtonwood??
  6. I consider both Woodcock and Snipe to be the most testing and sporting shots of all. Their flight patterns are unpredictable and erratic and are challenging at most safe shot heights and distances. They are also amongst the best eating birds. For the record the 'Quarry' list contains species which can be legally hunted for sport or food without justification or reason providing it is within the various closed seasons. It bears no relationship to pests which appear on the 'General Licence' or otherwise which generally require some form of justification to shoot. I would never shoot a pest species for sport, only necessity. Even though I love eating and shooting pigeons and acknowledge what a testing shot they can make I rarely shoot them as the permissions I shoot over do not justify or require it. I suppose then as previously stated the sporting shots debate can only really be applied to game shooting by definition.
  7. Im looking for one or two beaters on Saturday to work mixed covers on Anglesey for a small walked up day. Must have spaniels. Unfortunately Labs would struggle with the cover. Will sort something for expenses and there may be other opportunities throughout this season and next year. Please pm me if interested.
  8. I'll try again!! You have opened this one up for lots of opinions but remember opinions only apply to people's knowledge of their own situation and every shoot differs. My advice is be open minded but remember it has to work for everyone involved so don't put too much from yourself on the table too soon. Shooting is expensive and people are all too happy to pass on the costs to you but take the enjoyment for themselves. I would never take a shoot on assuming you could draw birds from elsewhere. Negotiate and cost for the worst case scenarios and it can only get better!!
  9. Hi. Ive got a Napier Safety Flag. Hardly used but I've just got rid of my Semi. Same again £5 posted. Its this one http://www.bushwear.co.uk/nostyles.php?ProductID=302105&ClassID=195 Cheers. Nick.
  10. Due to cancellation 2 guns available on 1st December for a rough shooting day to make a team of 4. Fully guided by our Keeper and his Spaniels. Good quality ground with mixed covers, streams, ponds, marsh, gorse bank and hedgerows. Great opportunities for wild quarry, notably snipe, woodcock and wildfowl. Evening duck flight also available subject to conditions. Shoot cabin and toilet facilities on site. £75 per gun. No bag limit. Please PM for further details.
  11. Would be interested to know what sort of numbers 'wild bird' shoots are typically getting per acre say? And what is the maximum non-native (pheasant and red leg) 'wild' bag shot per season. Obviously this is massively affected by neighbouring shoot activities i.e. differentiating between truly wild and previously released birds. Would help the rest of us 'put and take' shoots assess the value of leaving hens, cocks or otherwise. I suspect the info has too many factors involved to be scientifically valuable.
  12. Mine prefer jackets, knob of butter and a good mature cheddar (grated not sliced)!!! Alternatively frozen and mushy as above.
  13. Good question. No doubt you will find lots of theories on this forum. Ive always believed that ducks find it more palatable than wheat. Although they would give everything up for potatoes!!! Wheat also tends to put more fat on ducks and they will over eat quite easily. Fat ducks = no flight!!
  14. We have two ponds one with some released Mallard, the other we don't release. We just use blue barrels with springs same as we would pheasant positioned a little way off the pond edge. We always use Barley and have never struggled either keeping or attracting Duck. If you can get it on the island better still. Less wastage to vermin but no doubt the rats will find it eventually.
  15. I sell a few shoot days through various methods including this forum and every year it never ceases to disappoint me how many no shows and let downs I get. I ask for a deposit against bookings but there are always the ones who drag it out until a few days before the booking when they either let me know their plans have changed if I'm lucky or alternatively just don't bother turning up and I don't hear from them again. I never used to ask for deposits at all but as usual its the few who **** it up for the many. There are at least three names on this forum alone, but should I name and shame? Whats the point, people will no doubt give me the public abuse and hurriedly come up with a reason why I am somehow to blame. Can we please remember that syndicate and commercial shoots alike rely on a full season of pegs being filled just to survive and lost revenue means failing shoots and less opportunities for everyone. Whatever your budget or shooting discipline I was always taught that shooting was a sport for Gentlemen (and Women).
