  1. Welcome to PW pal, well done on taking the comments on the chin, most don't. On this site a lot of people's first posts are similar to yours but rapidly go downhill when they get offended by the replies.

I would think your best bet would be to ask if anyone will take you out for the day paid/unpaid. You might hit it off with them and get invited out again.there are some top blokes on here. I know that shooters like me with land prefer to be out enjoying it with good company rather than alone.

Good luck in your pursuit and if your ever near Manchester give me a shout and we can have a day on the geese. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

  2. To give you an idea the company I work for are in the BMF (builders merchant federation) Basically all the merchants around the country chip in and bulk buy the stock for the coming year but even with hundreds of company's involved we still can't compete with travis Perkins and B&Q.

Online business doesn't affect the building trade significantly because a builder/plasterer needs screws/ sand or plasterboards and so on, on the day. They can't wait around for a few days for some cheap nails to be delivered.

  3. As someone who works for a small builders merchant the less B&Q's the better. I hope the people (if any) find work but the small family run business have really struggled to compete with the size and buying power of these huge company's.

  4. I'm probably wrong here but I thought you only had to use steel shot if there's water around. I'm sure someone be able to correct me if I'm wrong. Where I shoot on a golf course they seem to stick to near the ponds so always use steel shot. Gamebore 3" 36g no.1's do the job.

Any questions ring your feo. I did and got some sound advice. ATB 425

  5. Anyone around north west or more locally to Stockport there's a BMW specialist called DARREN WOOD BMW. Read nothing but good reviews online then took my car because something was draining the battery intermittently. Straight away they said their booked up for 5 weeks but would try and have a look if I brought it down the next morning.

They squeezed me in, changed the hedgehog relay and said if that didn't cure it they would take the part off refund me the money for the part and labour. Due to over 60 years of BMW experience between the 3 of them they diagnosed it correctly first time where as a normal garage could of spent days testing for the drain. They work on all cars but if you have a BMW or something from BMW's M division there the ones to see. Hope this helps anyone around the Manchester area. ATB 425

  6. I went years ago and didn't really enjoy much if I am honest.

How come, I'm guessing as you went your into Motorsport so what spoilt it for you ?

Thanks wrx- the grandstand sounds more like my cup of tea.

I get paid at the end of the month so we will be booking tickets then.

  7. Tickets for the weekend are around £350. I did see one at £1400 for the 4 days. We're going to be camping so no hotels but I'm trying to sort it out now to give plenty of saving up time. Race is first week of July.

  8. Evening all, me and a few mates were chatting today and came up with the idea of going watching the full weekend of F1 this year......... So my question is has anyone been to the silverstone F1 race and if so is there any tips/advice. Thanks in advance. ATB 425

  9. The loss of life is tragic, if the police covered it up then they should be held accountable for the cover up, but like mike says, the act that killed the people that day was Liverpool fans crushing their own to death. Tragic situation and I'm sure the family's want 'justice' but making one person a scape goat for what was the fault of the fans just doesn't seen right to me. ATB 425

  10. Well, I finally got chance to have my first go at the geese today on my new perm. I had a walk round to makesure everyone was off the course then spotted where they were, on the 17th fairway making a mess.

I managed to walk within 20ft of the last 3 Canada's to take off and one shot of gamebore mammoth 3" 36gr no 1 and that was that, about 70/80 took flight and landed on the other side of the course so I took the one I got to the car and as I looked up there all going back to the original spot. I Walked back but they took flight at about 100yds from me and over the motorway so job done for the night.

I cant upload pictures, but if any kind member could upload them for me that would be great. ATB 425

  11. I believe the biggest mistake was using his gun in anger.I have myself been in a position where local thieves have been on one of my yards at least a dozen times I knew they were there as I have a remote alert system in place that runs off a car battery.each time I was alerted usually at night I go there on my own but have never contemplated taking a gun as I know this would be very wrong.I simply call the police on route and have up to now arrived at the same time as them.several of these scum have been in court as a result and my guns are safe.Thats foresight.I know how frustrated

The guy must have been but you simply cannot shoot at people well not in this country anyway.I doubt the court

could find in any other way.life just is not fair.atb

    .

Completely agree with what your saying but you had a 'choice' to not take your gun. He was forced into a situation whilst he had his gun on his person. Very different scenario's IMO.

  12. In response to Gordon, Yes but my point is your comments were 'after' the event. Comments about taking his gun to the site of the thefts and so on. All after the incident has occurred. It's not just you, but anyone can say what he should of done after it's happened. Once the op had posted his initial post everything else is 'hindsight'.

  13. To the people saying he shouldn't of taken his gun with him, even though he was only dropping his mother off at the site of the thefts, then planning to go on his way. does that mean he should of never taken his gun out with him whenever he was going their 'just encase' the 'criminals' are there. Highly impractical and easy to say after the event.

That's the problem with some people on here. They have a magical power called 'hindsight' that the rest of us don't have. There full of the right answers after the event.

GHE more than likely went through all this knowing the probable outcome was bleak at best but instead of rolling over and excepting the decision he decided to fight it and stand up to the police for what he believed was right, and for that sir i applaud you for your courage. Misplaced optimism or not, having the balls to fight for what you believed in is what seperated the leaders from the followers.

I'm sure as this wound is still fresh you will still be seething at the deseicion but try to accept it (as hard as that is) and move on as best you can. And if lightning does strike twice and this situation or any other arises again, save yourself time and money and speak to Gordon first (he seems to know everything) ;)
