  1. Thanks KennyB I have already found the International Falconry forum. I will have a look on Amazon for the book.
  2. I am having problems finding somebody to countersign my application form as I have only been living in Cornwall for about 20 months having moved down from Oxford. An old family friend who I have know for 20 years has offered to countersign for me. He hold a currant shotgun license. I have not seen him for a good many years but chat sometimes via Facebook. He holds a managerial position. Do you think he will be accepted as my countersignature ?
  3. Hi Foxnet22 thanks for the info. Yes from what little knowledge I have on the subject Goshawks are a good bird for a beginer. How much land do you need to fly one? How time consuming is it training and getting a bird ready to fly ?
  4. Thanks for the very kind offer if I am ever up your way I will take you up on your offer From what I understand if I want to start up in the sport I would have to find myself a mentor, how do I go about doing this ? Is a very time consuming sport ? I work full time but always have weekends free. Do the birds require daily attention and if so how long?
  5. I find the idae of using birds of prey for hunting totally facinating. How did you first get into Falconery ? I would like to learn more about it can you recommend any good book ? Is it a difficult sport to get started in ?

I agree with the above but thats only because I live in St Austell. As has already been mentioned the traffic in the summer is a bloody nightmare !!! A ten min journey in the winter can take an hour in the summer.
  7. I am glad somebody asked about anti depressants and applying for a SGL. I was prescribed mild ones when my marrage broke down 6 years ago and only took them for about a month. I was worried that they might refuse me a license.
  8. Thanks for the update glad to hear that everything went well and keep us posted. Right time to persuade the other half !!!
  9. As soon as my SC arrives I will be looking to buy a gun,but with so many about I dont really know what to go for. I am looking for something of an allrounder, used for clays and rough shooting. I have read good reviews on the Lanber Sporter and would like to hear your views on the gun. Should I go for new or secondhand ? What should I expect to pay for a good condition example ?
  10. Hi Marnold I am in the same position as Richard at the moment but have a few irons in the fire regarding permissions. So again if you fancy meeting up for abit of rough shooting sometime in the future let me know.
  11. I would be very interested in hearing the outcome. Do you intend to keep the new pup inside, what sex is the terrier ?
  12. Interesting comment regarding gender. The terrier is a 3 year old male and he has been castrated so if we were to get another dog should we be looking at a dog or bitch ?
  13. At what age could I start to keep a pup outside ? I have a large shed that could be used. Do the majority of working dogs live outside ? The wife is so soft she would probably let it in !!!
  14. I am toying with the idea of getting a Springer pup to train and take rough shooting but have hit abit of a snag. My partner and I already have a 3yr old Parsons Terrier that is just a house pet and Im afraid it has been spoilt rotten mainly by the other half. Our main concern is that of the Parsons excepting another dog into the house, my partner thinks rightly or wrongly that it may attack any other dog brought into the house as it is very possesive about us. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
  15. Just thought I would say hello, I am a new member living in Cornwall. I am returning to the shooting scene after an absence of about 6 years. I received the application form for my shotgun license today so will be filling in in asap, but from what I can understand there is a 3 month waiting in Devon & Cornwall I read a previous post about arranging a meet up for members in the Cornwall area, any news on this as I would like to go.
