  1. I've just done my first evening picking sloes, only managed 3.7kg of sloes will pick some more tomorrow. Thansk for the tip on thaw/refreeze might give that a try.
  2. I rarely drink now days anyway. Probably go out once or twice for a drink a month, had my days of drinking now I'd much prefer something non alcoholic.
  3. Well received the call today. will be expecting my visit in 4-5 weeks time. Considering I only put my application in last week pretty darn good .
  4. Yer I'm not looking at all those magnets and flappers lol, just want to get the basic camo/luggage/hide setup and a few basics decoys. I don't have the best permission for decoying anyway but I know there flight lines perfect for sitting in a camo net shooting them on way in and out. Crows on the other hand plenty of them about to decoy. The pigeons had these real big beans which it had fed on before shot and I know there not planted on this farm, so I can only assume there feeding elsewhere and flying in that line to go roost or something.
  5. Thanks guys having a smooch on Uttings and A1 Decoys as we speak. Hopefully can get a little basket together. Any camo nets I should stay away from from being fragile and tear to easy?
  6. I'm looking to slowly gear up for pigeon decoying/shooting for when my SGC goes through. Basically I'm looking for recommendations from other shooters of good websites and camo clothing/gear. I basically need everything as I got nothing of my own, camo tops/bottoms/belts/bags/gloves/boots/headwear ... you get the picture. Uttings site seems to have lots of stuff but there's so much I was wondering if there was anything to avoid due to being utter ****. Any other sites they have a good variety and possible deals? Seen a few things but not point ordering **** and being disappointed. Thanks.
  7. Tbh last year by the time first frost hit most the sloes were stripped by what i'm assuming is birds or possibly deer if deer eat them. All i know is last year I waited till first frost and got very little hence why i'm asking if there's any other tips/tricks to checking readiness.
  8. I've noticed tons of them this year, I have about 20 glass demijohns laying about we picked up so wouldnt love to make tons of gin. Whats the tell tale signs of them being ready?
  9. 24 years old, never had any bother with police at all never even been in a station. Clean driver's license. My interests are computers, metal detecting, cycling, camping etc not going out most nights on a bender. Like I said I have permission on a farm to use me HW100KT .177 and Shotgun and I will have a written permission slip on me from the farmer for the interview. Age shouldn't be a reason at all cause people much younger than myself have had them allowed.
  10. Shouldn't be no problem hopefully then, hoping it wont take to long. The house already has a SGC/FAC holder so security already cleared except the name cabinet ill be putting in. Just need to be patient now....
  11. Will mostly be for pigeons/crows/rabbits around the farm as I walk about the fields, maybe the odd pheasant if in season. Will do clay shooting but Ill get my own trap and clays and take them over the farm.
  12. I have permission to use on a farm to hunt with shotgun/air rifle, I'm a member of BASC already cause I shoot with air rifle + there is a clay shoot on the farm itself but haven't been before. Thanks for the responses, some people I spoke to said they wasn't asked nothing like I posted but others said what I posted which got me a tad worried.
  13. I'm in Essex. The area I'm in is covered by the Met.
  14. Hello Everyone, I've recently sent off my application for a SGC and on doing so I've been told by a couple people I know and they've said the guy can ask some weird questions when the comes to check your gun storage and interview you. I've heard stuff like name 5 components in a shotgun cartridge, whats the minimum distance you should be shooting your gun at etc. You had any experience of this and what questions if so? I want to make sure I'm a bit clued up on this before the visit. Thanks.
  15. Thanks for that link ill take a browse. I was looking at a over and under or a side by side anyway. Ive been thinking about the counter signature part of the certificate, my step dads mother is an accountant and has known me for over 6 years would this be acceptable?? OR because my step dads relationship with my mother would it not be accepted? Thanks Regards Ben
  16. Thanks for all the welcomes. Im from the area Essex bighit. Regards Ben
  17. Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking of joining something like BASC anyway for when i start, as it doesnt hurt being a member of this organisations just like FID for metal detecting. Yes i will get some advice on where to place my gun cabinet, theres a couple of spots in the house which i think are more than aceeptable so i dont see that being a problem. The countersignature part is still a little tricky as obviously the length of time theyve known me is not as long as they would want i dont think, i know a couple of accountants but i think this could be void as there kind of related, not blood but married into the family in some way. My dads shooting friends may be a good one tho if accepted, with a little time im sure i will find someone . Yes i understand about the fact of someone seeing me driving down the road on a bike with what looked to be a gun holder i could be in a spot of trouble, so breaking it down and using a nice size rucksack would be a good idea. Would constantly breaking down and reassembling a shotgun cause to much extra wear on the gun itself tho? Also would there be a number to a local non emergency police line that would be possible to phone up when leaving to travel to a permission or shooting range to let them aware that i will be on the road travelling incase anyone did decide to make a phonecall as a precaution? Or would you not recommend this? Thanks again Regards Ben
  18. Hello, I'm considering putting in for a shotgun license in the next month or two, now i have a couple of questions regarding gun cabinets, countersignature and travel. Im aged 20 but i spend roughly 3-4 days a week staying at my mums house and 3-4 days a week staying at my dads house, im up my dads house probably 5 days a week or more but do not always stay of course. My dad has a shotgun and firearms license on these premises himself with his own gun cabinet, now the question is the following: Q1) All my legal documents are registered to my mums house, will i be able to keep my gun cabinet at my dads house as i stay up there 3-4 days a week? I will have my own seperate gun cabinet of course and only i will have the keys, but im wondering due to all legal documentation being registered to my mums house would this effect my application of the shotgun license being accepted if placed at my dads address? Q2) I cannot think of anyone who would be able to countersignature my application, ive tried to think of everything i could think of but so far no luck. Can people give me as many examples of people who can sign this for me so i can try and find someone who would qualify in being able to sign this off for me please. Q3) I only drive a motorbike not a car, now what are the laws on carrying a shotgun to and from your permission?? Would i be allowed to carry this on a motorbike in a case of course to my permission or would i have to arrange other transport, for example a family member to drop me to my permission and pick me up? Sorry if these may sound stupid questions to you more experienced shooters and hunters, but i would like to be able to require a shotgun license and get into this sport. Thanks for your time and help in advance. Regards Ben
  19. Hello All, Im new to the forums and i thought i'd just introduce myself, i don't do many posts on forums unless its questions/advice or showing pictures or days out. I've always had a interest in shooting/hunting as my old man does it, ive been out with him on quite a few occasions with the air rifle keeping the rabbit population down as they can be quite a pest. I've been looking at getting into pigeon shooting with a shotgun as it looks like a fascinating sport/hobby, whenever me and the old man are out i always want to give it a go. So i will be applying for a shotgun license soon hopefully, theres just a few questions i have regarding the application form and the cabinet/gun itseld before sending.I will post these in a new thread in a appropriate section, so i can get a better response on my queries. I cannot wait to get to know other forum members and read past threads to gain more knowledge into the hobby. Thanks Regards Ben
