What he said - M40 will be quicker than M1 but from where you are, getting to the M40 could be bad on a Friday afternoon. At 13.30 you should be OK but best thing to do is check traffic updates on friday before committing

Mine get won at least twice a week between September and March for Beagling, which means they run through covert, streams, get dragged over barbed wire and christ knows what else. Still look and feel excellent (get the thicker weight).

Periodically there is a post on this site referring to Bill Oddie. This unleashes an immediate outpouring of hate and vitriol directed against him for no obvious reason that I can identify. It is invariably the same posters who indulge in this puerile nonsense.

I'm not sure I've ever commented on him before but the fact remains that he's a vice president of the League Against Cruel Sports and is prone to castigating those of us who like country sports. He also comes out with blinders like this, which has no basis of knowledge of any sort, which he conveniently tweeted about an hour ago:
Meanwhile, we allow millions of "tame" pheasants, partridges and grouse to be shot in UK for 'fun'.
Hence my comments!

For what it is worth I always find it fairly ironic when anybody who labels themselves as a Liberal take a very polarised stance in relation to someone else's views.
I think we are in violent agreement - I (like others it seems) didn't realise that your original post was only in relation to Malkiserow's question.

My point was that (purely in my opinion of course) neither Mr. Woodward's views or those of the party that he represents could be taken to be Liberal in the sense most people understand the word.

He represents the Liberal party, who are not the same as the lib dems.
Reading their policies on hunting I suspect they wouldn't be all that concerned.
None of it really tallies with my understanding of 'Liberal'!!!

Useful info - thanks. Are you using the standard kit or the diamond one? Does the amount of metal removed depend on which grit you use - i.e. if you just want to touch up a blade using the standard lansky system, you can use a fine or superfine and not take off too much metal?
The standard kit (which I picked up second hand). Yes - amount of metal removed depends on number of strokes (fnarr..), grit and angle. You could just use a fine stone and finish with a strop to get a good edge without removing much. The turnbox is just quicker to set up (and I'm lucky to have both, which is profligate really!!).

I've got the turnbox ( http://lansky.com/index.php/products/4-rod-turn-box/ ) and the standard lansky system (the one with the rods - http://lansky.com/index.php/products/std-3-stone-system/ ). AS I see it;
The standard system is far more aggressive and removes quite a lot of metal. I use this for 'resetting' edges on knives with great results - a couple of really knackered kitchen knives have been bought back from being blunt / mega chipped with this. However, I think you really need the stand with it, which Lansky should include as standard - I can't really see how you could use it without - http://lansky.com/index.php/products/super-c-clamp/ . I only do my knives in this when they are really blunt / have been dinged on an edge or similar however.
The Turnbox is a good day to day syatem just to put an edge on - removes less metal but won't 'reset' an edge very efficiently.
A strop with a block of starkie blue is what makes the real difference to the final cutting edge.

That aside however...
I work in Windsor but live in High Wycombe. Wycombe aint glam generally - there;s no two ways about it! However, there are some bits that are pretty nice - look at Hughenden, Penn etc. Sadly they are mostly on the wrong side of Wycombe for what would be your commute. Also good train links (30 mins into Marylebone, regualr trains to Brum etc). Your money will go considerably further, as you probably already have seen. (MY flat would be £100k more in Windsor and probably about that in Marlow.
In terms of commute, Wycombe to Windsor takes me half an hour if it's clear or about 50 mins in rush hour (average - can be far worse occasionally obvs).
Windsor is lovely to live in but the nice bits are mind bendingly expensive. I personally can't get too excited about Old Windsor on an emotional level but a good commute. Ascot/Sunningdale/Warfield/Martin's Heron all much of a muchness - nice but pricey.
If money was no object, as a shooting man who has to commute, I'd live in Henley or one of the nearish villages - Fingest, Turville, Stonor, Assendon etc.
On more of a budget, Wycombe and it's surrounds have great access to the Chilterns and plenty of shoots to get involved with. I wouldn't go too much further north / east into bucks if I had to commute to Slough daily though (all personal, obviously).
