  2. Hi All just thought ide pass this on ...As a return favour for helping out with lamping, The Essex Hunter took me pigeon shooting yesterday to show me the basics. I shoot clays but have been interested in learning more about how to shoot the real Thing !!! I was told to arrived at his house 8.45, where we striaght away after loading up took a short drive to some rape fields, when we arrived we could see A small flock of pigeons feeding on the field, he took me through the whole process from clapping off birds setting out flags and placing rope bangers before I even saw a decoy! Tim went through the whole process of hide building, setting up the rotary, I thought he was taking the Mickey when he started lobbing his decoys around the field and told me to do the same!. wheres all this Horse shoe . n set up patterns !! , back into the hide for a longer pep talk . Tim explained that we would see bird’s flighing into a block of rape around a mile away he explained that he did not want to shoot that Area as he was letting them build up. But all that see our decoy came in for a closer look ,,, and got it !!!! A great day a big learning curve once again from the master and as a bonas i even got to shoot a few birds which peeled off to decoy in, a few more bit the dust , When a High set of 3 flew over , i picked them up , with the master saying ... follow through , follow through .... Now , Bang ... a big puff of feathers and another one from 40 yards hits the deck ,. After packing up we went to look at the block of rape he spoke about with so many birds flying around I was glad to start off with the basics and look forward to the next time.
  3. Im the lamp man ,,, yep it was a true shot as soon as i wipped of the red you could see it was a hard shot , the crafty fox was crouching down behind a large fallen branch The "****" came after the crack of the rifle , but only because it was a clean kill. The was so much against the master ,, **** light long shot and a true meaning to the saying " Cant see the wood for the trees " Mater 1 fox 0 .. heres to another good night ,,,
  4. After spending a few nights lamping for the Essex Hunter bashing a few foxes in the Essex Countryside , it was time to be taken out into the hide. Just like my baptisium into Fox Shooting the weather wasnt with me for my Pigeon Baptisium ,that light drizzle was going to take its toll . Again the master took me into the freshley drilled field like a pack horse loaded up i trudged on Watched and help set up the hide and set a decoy pattern up 25 to 45 yards out and sat down gun on lap, The master gave me my orders , and explained the hand signels ... time to wait , it wasnt long as one came into the pattern .... on my side , fumbleded the safety catch popped up and bang.... one down striaght into the pattern , a nice pat on the back from the master.... I HAD A SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR. day continued slow but we still managed to knock a few more out the sky ... rain got heavy later on so called it a day ,,, Thanks to the Master ( the Essex Hunter ) i had my 1st day in the hide and couldnt of spent a better day in the field with a true master who passed on some of his weath of knowlege to me ,,, many thanks ,,, what a great baptisium ,,, even got wet .. Martin
