  1. Hi Nigel. she looks fantastic well done on such a traditional skillful build, will you be getting the gun on her next season? all the best...ian
  2. hi again fantastic work, look forward to seeing her completed, i am also at the stage of building another punt to fit the double gun as she sits too far back on the old one, will get my finger out and get a few pics to you. all the best...ian
  3. Hi a gentleman rang me this week about the history and details of my 1.5" single punt gun but as i have not taken his number i cannot contact him sees this. The gun does have a hole through the collet in which you can see the firing pin, the bolt that was fitted must have been replaced at some point, the proof marks are for birmingham and have a crown atop of cross pikes and the letters B P C also there is another with cross pikes and what looks like a V?? contradicting this on the other side it has the BP and a crown on top. so to my mind that makes the gun 1875 and the black powder mark between 1905/1954 it would be interesting to know what you think cheers..ian
  4. shaking things up a bit this season, the 1.5" punt gun is for sale on guntrader and i have just bought a T.Frostick double 1 1/8th on hawker recoil system so now need to build a block to accept the pin on the recoil set up, the gun is running at 8oz from each barrel or 16oz double discharge a thorough pattern testing in the next few months will see how she preforms i will pop a couple of pics up soon
  5. will do carl, hopefully will be able to get out a bit more next season so your more than welcome to come for a run out all the best...ian
  6. finally managed to get a few pictures uploaded, this was our first shot we picked three then as the tide flooded another two came floating up so netted both of them, only five but we were very happy with the stalk and the clean kills, i worked out the other day thats around 39hrs for five widgeon but worth every bead of sweat the aching muscles and the hour of cleaning stinking black powder residue out the gun and off the decks. on this day the wind set against us and even with the big oars we could make very little ground so out we got grabbed the anchor rope and walked her the last mile or so back home, it always supprises me how much wind catches such a low craft but i suppose the two great lumps sitting up don't help
  7. hello yes have had her afloat three times now, very pleased with how she handles the only thing is when the wind is head on it stops us dead even with the big oars so its get out and walk her home time, we did stalk a small pack of widgeon last time but fired slightly low so took only 5 out of the 20 or so birds even so all were killed clean so we were very pleased only took around 40 hours and 4000 pounds for those 5 duck but worth it for the time you spend in the most beautiful surroundings, i will get some pictures converted and posted soon hope everyone is having a great season so far
  8. also had my brass heads that were designed for card tubes converted to brass, the head threads into the brass tube which makes priming, decapping and cleaning much easier the paddles all painted and the first of the ash pole ready for its steel shoe
  9. i have had a set of cup seal tools made to fit the gun, they sit over the powder and when fired they flare out in the barrel giving a total seal giving very hard shooting characteristics.
  10. the gun is home after her trip to scotland
  11. The gun is ready for collection after having some work done also had brass cases made for her i have had a set of tools made that produce a cup seal wad that opens like an umbrella when shot down the barrel to produce a constant seal photos to follow soon
  12. chris with the spray gun on the first layers
  13. This was the original seat from the old punt we covered it with neoprene from my old chestys really comfortable
  14. hi fellas sorry its been so long since my last post just been flat out at work, here is where we are up to
  15. Hi Wildfowler, just a quick question what thickness ply did you use for the floor boards in the punt?? tried 9mm but very unstable and would need lots of support the only thing with 18mm is will it add too much weight? i would really appreciate your advice. cheers..Winchester
  16. hello of. i had the gun undercoated when it was taken to be bead blasted they said they use marine grade grey undercoat its what they use on most refurb jobs axles ect, the tower paint i have been using you can buy its made by STOKES PAINTS and has zink in it to bond it to metal and makes it matt and non slip so very handy when moving the gun around i have a 5L tin that you are welcome to if a courrier could get it? All the best....ian
  17. sorry but these decoys are **** they fall to pieces the flocking comes off after first trip and they were only in fog no rain, i tried to leave very negative feedback to stop any other fowlers from making my mistake but i could not. i was lucky as i only got six to try please if anyone reads this do not buy them!!! all the best ....ian
  18. presses are a total waste of money, i have had three types of press and gave them up for a quality RTO and set of digital scales. i load apx 150 10 bore and 200 3.5" 12g they are perfect every time and is much quicker than a press. i also use cup seals behind a fiber wad, they hit hard and pattern great, best to use a frangible disc over shot 12g ones fit 10g fine
  19. Thanks of we are in the process of making another two for the stern like you suggested,,i will also be fitting the sculling block which will look similar to the row blocks but will be fitted with a side mounted rowlock to give that range of movement for my sculler. all the best fella....ian
