I'm guessing they won't give me a .50 cal...
I thought about applying for FAC air but can't really see the point. I know the ammo is cheaper but the guns are often more expensive than a rimfire and if I were shooting in a barn, for instance, my non-FAC air rifle would do the job

I like the fact that I can hide the key somewhere and don't have to surreptitiously retrieve it when I want to shoot (although will have to hide ammo box key, I suppose)
I emailed the link to the FEO and he replied that it looked fine. I know they're not keen on external handles but it's kite marked and solidly built so don't think there'll be a problem

It's a Sealey SEGS8 - should be deep enough for scoped rifles and with plenty of room for my intended collection! Did consider the Bratton Sound RL7+ but this was cheaper, with free delivery and has the convenience of the electronic keypad. Going to bolt it to the wall with these:

I'd go for the .22LR for the reasons you said but would like the option of the .17HMR too. Thanks for the warm welcome!
