  4. hi everyone story goes I baught an old western 1200 egg incubator (cheep), I actually diddent realise how big it was until i collected it! anyways the bloke gave me a FREE glevum superior incubator with the western as he needed the space in his shed, the plan was i was going to hatch some pheasant eggs in the western with my son and put them down on our local shoot approx 200 extra (as the gamekeeper has 800 already) but due to the size of it it and running costs would be silly to put only 200 eggs init! so the we looked into the old glevum which is all in one piece and converted to electric already, the only problem we have is that we go away on weekends and would be missing out on turning them, (where as the big western would have done it for us - as its an automatic turner) i know they really need turning at least three times a day morning, noon and night, but we would miss Friday night turn, all day Saturday, and sunday morning turn, so all in all we would miss 5 turns! i have hatched ducks and chickens before so i know you need to turn them as often as possible, but my question is would it really make any difference to miss these turns out or do i need someone to turn them for me while im away? thanks in advance everyone for your opinions,
  5. I cant thank you all enuf lads for all your help and advice. I think ill stick to the chokes i have and give more lead and see what happens. I may be not giving them enuf lead as you all say. Im used to the slower moving clays. Lol.
  6. Thanks for the replys lads. Im thinking it may just be me thats a **** shot!!! Haha. Ill change the chokes for the next shoot and see how that goes. Thanks again. J
  7. Hi lads. Been on a few pheasant shoots this season but previous to this ive only been on clays. For some reason i tend to miss the game what i would consider an easy shot if it was a clay? Im useing 32g no5 three crowns cartridges and i have improved cylinder choke and cylinder choke fitted, exactally what i use for clays and my gun is a winchester select sporter with 30 inch barrels over under. I consider myself a very good shot with clays but cant seem to get the hits i want when shooting game! When a bird comes my way im positive ill hit it but then when i shoot the bird just lafs at me and flags me off as it flys away!!!!! Lol I dunno if giving them too much leed or what? Or is it just a thing you get better at the more you get used to it? Thanks in advance lads. J
  8. What a fantastic picture and what a fantastic looking animal. I somtimes look at the ones we shoot hung up and look close at the rainbow of colours these birds have. Somtimes i think to myself its a shame to shoot such a gorgeous bird! But then at the same time i start to fancy a nice plump roast one with a selection of roast veg!!!!
  9. That breaks my heart to hear that UD especially at this time of year. My thaughts are with you my friend. My little lexy is a sprocker shes the best ever dog ive had, so loving, faithfull and hard working i would be lost without her. Good night and god bless to your gorgeous tia.
  10. Yeh she did me proud bless her. Im well chuffed. Im a bit reluctant to let the little liver and white bitch go! But we already have three other dogs! So you have to draw the line at some point im afraid! 😟
  11. my little lexy gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies on Tuesday this week, 5 girls (4 black and white, 1 liver and white) and one boy (black and white), not bad to say the vets could only see 4 on her scan! lol she did exelent passing them but got a bit tired out on the 6th one! we had the tails docked and the dew claws off and what an experience that was! I have never see it done before and I dident know what to expect, (im a real soft *** at heart!) but I managed to hold each one in turn for the vet so I was proud of myself! lol im over the moon with my little lexy so I just wanted to share some pictures with everyone of her fantastic little ones!
  12. yeh I think we will stay with the old pigs ears and the odd dried sausage fortune! lol rimfire what a lovley pair of dogs you have for your profile picture, theyre bloody gorgeous!
  13. Fair enuf then i take it its a stupid idea! Never mind. And im sure a good well fed working dog wouldent just eat game for the sake of it that was in the back of the 4x4 at the side of it. I could trust my dog not to touch it anyway. No problem it was just an idea anywayz thanks for all your input guys!
  14. So whats the verdict then on the pheasant feet? Lol is it a yes or a no! Bit worried about the bones? Thanks lads. J
  15. Ok scotslad. Thank you for your input. Seams a shame to bin them but i would rather have my dog than loosing her to somthing like that. Ill not bother now you said that ill just stick to the normal pet shop treats! Thanks for the advice. J
  16. Im not sure weather its a good idea to try it or not. Just that when im doing the pheasants my little lexy just sits their watching me and it seams a shame to bin the feet when i could roast them up as a treat for her and our other dogs! Dunno. Just an idea to treat our hard working partners.
  17. just wondering if anyone has done this, given their dog the feet off the pheasants, (cooked obviously) ive seen chicken feet and even duck feet all cooked and dried out and sold as dog treats but I diddent know if it was a good idea to make my own out of the pheasant feet rather than just throwing them away? any views good or bad or any how to's on the subject anyone?
  18. niceone shootthepigeon, thanks for that bit of advice, ill look into that!
  19. great! thanks for that lads, ill have a run out sometime this week, really need some of those wax leggings, went beeting other week and cut my bloody legs to pieces going through brambles, cant wait for my little lexy to have the puppies and then get her in the field! haha!
  20. eyup lads, as the title says where the best place to go to get some shooting clothing, I could really do with some wax leggings for beating this weekend, I can get some off ebay for £20 but I would rather go to a shop and maybe find some more goodies at the same time! is there anywhere near Rotherham or Sheffield? I know of shooters world at mexbrough, but theyre MEGA expensive in my eyes! cheers lads any help is appreciated,
  21. As the title says guys. Im a first timer at the sloe gin job and im also a dummy lol and would like to know a step by step guide how to make some sloe gin. All the ingredients/equipment i need, how long i need to leave it to stand, what to look for and when to pick the berrys etc etc. Thanks in advance lads!
  22. Eyup mate. We all good thanks. Yeh caravan is locked up now for winter so the shotguns coming out to play again! Lol. Were not 100% sure yet with lexy but we will know when she has a scan in a week or so. Fingers crossed. J
  23. Lovley jubily thanks felly. I just looked them up and theyre only 16 mile away about 20-30 mins or so. Ill give them a call monday morning and get some prices. Thank you. J
  24. Thank you for the reply paul T i know a vet is the only way forward. I wouldent put the pups in anyones hands that diddent know what they were doing. Same with the dew claws, although I diddent know they could be done at home so to speek. Thank you aswell felly for the reply i am a certificate holder and i do use lexy for working so i should be ok in that respect. Do you have any idea what they charge for docking per pup? Thanks again. J
