  1. Agree with coldweld, it really gives you nice varying backdrops and range of targets which can be quite challenging, always enjoy the shoot there and it's a nice stroll round the woods too! Only 10-15 mins down the road from Orston so if you are over that way on a Sunday special....maybe give it a go?!
  2. +1 on this, excellent setting and layout....went there autumn last year and was very impressed with the whole setup. If anyone goes from here and needs a shooting partner give me a shout!
  3. British open was good for me, got in early and done, no queuing, arguing, fighting etc but a few tears at the score!
  4. I wouldn't want to name names on here but it's a new ground to me, like I said everywhere else I been be it Churchills, Sporting Targets, Doveridge, Orston etc been spot on and very well organised with clearly marked stands and no feeling of being pressured by groups trying to get in front, I suppose some of those grounds you are led round anyway on a registered.
  5. It's probably just that particular shoot as I have had no issues in the past with any others, everyone being very pleasant. Fair to say, I don't think I will be going there again.
  6. Good morning, After attending a couple of local(ish) registered shoots last weekend I can quite honestly say that I was not overly impressed by the way some groups of shooters were behaving at one particular shoot, I found that some were actively pushing their way to the front of the queue to hand in the cards to the referee to get in first, when clearly other people were waiting inline to hand the cards in. In the past (admittedly i'm fairly new to the sport) I have had no problems with this and found that the larger groups would often let just the two of us go in front which I found admirable. Maybe it is just me but it has certainly put me off going to this particular shoot as it gave the impression of bad organisation and general free for all feeling whilst paying what seems a premium price to shoot there. Mild annoyance over. Cheers
  7. Unfortunately i'm away this week but if you go in the future give me a shout as i'm close by there, its a good, friendly ground as everyone else has said, they send you around with a lad to operate the traps and score you although I believe lessons are available too. Also Notts district club is also good and I had an instructor score me around the sporting course last time and had a few handy tips for free. Can't go wrong with either ground but as someone else said Notts is shut on Mon & Tues.
  8. Hi Matt, It's a shame to see you are having to sell up, I hope you can get back into it again soon when things sort out. I can vouch it's a stunning gun in excellent condition and a bargain at that price!
  9. Saturday at 9am, I'm a novice shooter but thought would drop myself in at the deep end, what's the worst that can happen!
  10. I'm pretty much a novice, only started late last year to the sport but already booked in to do the British open next weekend, I don't expect to hit more than 50-60% but I like the variation of going to different grounds with different settings and just enjoy it! Hopefully the scores will improve and keep setting a higher target for yourself.
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Managed to get myself booked in with a friend at the Open English Sporting at Garlands end of next month which should be fun, may need to get a bit more practice in before then! Cheers
  12. Hi, Never shot there but I have been for a look some time back, it was going to be one of my first ports of call in Notts, it looks a good setup and very welcoming! Cheers
  13. Hi, Just thought I would say hello, I have been following the forum a while but decided to join properly the other day. I have not been shooting clays for long but finally got round to getting a SGC after going with a friend to Sporting targets and getting hooked. Always loved guns in general and spent a bit of time in the states using pretty much any imaginable pistol/rifle/assult rifle i could get my hands on! Clay pigeon is pretty new to me but decided i would have a good go at it, done a few 100 bird sportings and 1 registered. I joined Sporting Targets as a member early in the year and have shot a couple of other grounds including Churchills and Borders wood in Notts/Leicester (which is highly recommended). Also Joined the CPSA as plan on doing a few more registered shoots. I treated myself to a 1988 Beretta 682 Supersport 28" after being persuaded that they are already becoming a sought after classic and robustly built, I have to say it is a thing of joy to use and an absolute gem....shame about the operator! I hope to try and get to a few grounds in Notts when I have time, mostly into sporting clays so if anyone is after a buddy i'm happy to join! Cheers Kev
