The only advice I can give is make sure it fits you I bought a brand new beretta SP Multi choked few years back my own fault I never tried it out shooting When I got it out into the field the stock was too low (I’m lanky sod ) I ended up selling it in saying that Beretta Brilliant guns I use a semi on ducks fits perfect

I've got the latest SP field with multi chokes, for me it handles really well, not had any face slap or any other problems with it. Tried my mates Browning 725 and just couldn't get on with it , no idea why as we are of  the same height and build almost. As said above make sure it fits before buying.

Cheers fellas we will deffinatly try before we buy👍🏻

It's not the weight Neil23, it's the stock dimensions, a couple of rounds of clays is very wise but see if he can borrow a Browning/Miroku as well to see which he finds most consistent to mount. I had a Silver Pigeon and just could not get a consistent mount/sight picture, our Coach assured us that they suit some but not others and ,no matter what you try, you will struggle to shoot to your full potential. Nothing against Beretta at all.

We'll get him on one to try 👍🏻

As above. I had a Silver Pigeon S. It was a game model with that fixed choke combination. Good little guns.

Make sure he tries one before spending money, some people (me included) just cannot find a consistent mount, not a problem with the gun as such, they are just different to other makes, Browning etc, and don't suit everybody.

When he held my mates silver pigeon he said it felt perfect weight wise compared to an old fabarm gamma I was keeping for him. Might pay to borrow my mates to let him have a day at the clays with it see how he gets on..

No they are the field models for shooting live quarry.

Yeah it was 1/4 & 1/2 this on I was looking at, he usually shoots 1/4 1/4 on sporting, I think he'll manage ok 1/4 1/2 he'll get used to it I suppose.

  4. I've been thinking about having a look around for a silver pigeon 28" for my son in 12g, looked at a mates couple weeks ago and noticed it was fixed chokes 1/4 & 1/2 . Were those the earlier models before they moved to multi choke??

The clay shoots are has far has I know are not on  which to the shooting people are a miss . I can remember when there was always a  clay shoot  at Wolsingham show back to   60 plus years ago ,then the  Durham Down The Line trophy was shot for using a Blair Gowery Trap

    Yes It's a shame

I take it the clay shoot isnt on again this year , dont think it was on 2 years ago either, has it stopped the shooting altogether there now?

If it helps I believe it's a fairly old gun some shop who knew about thm ...forgot the rough year he thought it could be.

Try Anglo Italian Arms, the importers or alternatively Teague do an after market.

Cheers I'll give them a try again think I tried them before but they didn't get back to me, it's worth a try though👍... didnt think about teague🤔

  9. Bit of a long shot but thought I'd try asking again.. I'm after a 1/4 choke for a fabarm gamma 12g, preferably flush fitting one. ???

The gun only came with skeet and 1/4, and he uses,1/4 and 1/4 for his Clay's shooting.

You are welcome to get a couple of lessons from me on how to do it - on some of my dies/presses - so your only outlay will be to buy primers/bullets/powder
If you don't have used .223 cases already I can donate a few to get you started

I'll be doing some 20-bore ammo soon too
Got a lot of the components, but not started on it as not been out to use the new 20-bore yet

It's my son who uses the 20b I  actually got one of his up for sale in sales section.

    Any thoughts on my offer?

Il most certainly be intouch if I decide to definitely reload but like someone said it may not be worthwhile for the amount it gets used. I was also looking into the reloading of 20g cartridges aswel as my son goes through a hell of a lot.

If you’re not using it much the cost of setting up to reload wouldn’t really b worth it IMHO.

I have a Tikka T3 in 223 and it works well on 55gr PPU soft point. At £70 per 100 it’s as cheap as you need. After all it only one round per critter..

Yours came from the same stable and it may work for you.

I think I'll look out for those 👍

If you want my advice Keep the 223 if it’s not costing you any money the point being is Yes the 17hmr will do you for foxes and odd goose to a certain point But the 223 is a more superior calibre for foxes Re prices 17hmr ammo v 223 ammo If only shooting foxes which is nothing compared to target shooting you will not be saving that much money

Not to mention selling the tikka you will lose a lot of money on it with a dealer Speaking from experience 👍

You totally right what you saying..True might hang on to it , but like I mentioned before I'm I little pushed for room in the rifle cabinet too

Thoroughly enjoyed mine for the smaller stuff - rabbit, magpie, etc etc, but for fox, don't be in too much of a hurry to discount the 22 WMR.

👍 keep that in mind ,but I have already got the slot for the 17 on my ticket now.

  13. Dedito shooting/walking boots, good boots these. If you know the name you will know what they retail at. Outgrown by my son  still great condition excellent treads few stains around the top shown in pics but not to bad. size 5 ,I found mine smallish and got a size up, I'm  10 so got a 11 so trying on would be recommended if possible. £80 postage inc20210517_215754.jpg.4a4f5a7d2b576c3811b10c980820a065.jpg20210517_215834.jpg.b6addf820dfdc1fa70349456ff5d4a8f.jpg20210517_215812.jpg.3a09fe6f16d8de1ca19c7193a5395946.jpg20210517_215907.jpg.47eff502891555586b47a39cfcecdb7c.jpg

That’s what I have in 17 and 22, great gun. My .223 is the least used, it only uses 1 bucket per fox.

If you are not using it you will find it a problem when your ticket comes up for renwall  .

Just got my licenses back last week took 9 month 😄

I bet if only bought 3 boxes in last 2 year

It cost’s me roughly about 41 pence to reload 223 I would not change to 17 hmr.

I don’t use my 223 but I definitely would not sell it can’t remember last time I took it out

i all ways pick the 17 hornet it cost the same to reload 41 pence

That's the sort of answers I was looking for not find another sport. Definitely worth while reloading then eh works out about quid a round to buy where I go. Only stock Winchester 55gr.

    3 hours ago, Rewulf said:

If you are not reloading for the .223 , what ammo are you using thats so expensive ?

Theres plenty of cheaper alternatives, like Hornaday Frontier ect, maybe not quite as accurate as a good £1 a pop BT , but good enough for culling jobs.

The HMR ammo isnt exactly cheap at around 30 p a round , and performance is miles away from .223 , thats if you can get a batch of decent ammo.
You can easily reload .223 for the same money with a decent bullet .

I see no advantage for you by changing to .17 .

Thanks for the advice as above Winchester  55gr. Might have to look in to a reloading kit

    Where are you based Neil?

I have a 17 hmr that I am thinking of moving on.

Similar to you, except I spend most of my time shooting over the dogs with shotgun and the rifles hardly been used since getting the dogs.

Same really not used the rifles much at all since my lads doing more and more Clay's.

Does anyone own one, are they any good or just cheap ****

Im looking for something for my mrs to shoot clays with, I have looked used but alot of stuff is battered and ideally id like something multi choke

they look the part on the adverts and seem good value for under £500 new

    Cheers

Bit late I know but my lad had used one for around 2 year and gets on very well with it. Hes 12 and it 20g and hes shooting on average 50-60% of targets at well known cpsa registered 100 bird comps in north east area.

Neil, surely if you are not using the .223 it is costing nothing to feed.

One thing I didn't mention the cabinet with my rifles in is full up at the moment with no room left so to fit in the 17 something would need to go. The 223 is what I use least mainly because of cost to feed. Having a young son that's doing well with his clay shooting most of my spare cash now goes towards buying batches of 20g cartridges to keep him in comps 😄.

    1 hour ago, WalkedUp said:

The .17hmr will be cheaper to feed but you will be losing so much capital on the Tikka I’m not sure it would be cost effective. If it was me I would stick with the .223.

If I did sell I think I'll be going for another cz in 17 nice and cheap and never fails. So would think il only be using part of what I make on the tikka. May only sell gun only and keep the scope. Noticed there is a 17 in private sales gun only 🤔.

  20. Toying with the idea of selling the 223 it's a tikka t3 light fantastic rifle, was bought about 3 year ago intentionally for fox control and odd goose cull.. rarely gets out out the cabinet these days so was thinking of letting it go a getting a 17hmr which will be cheaper to feed and can be used for the same purpose. Never owned a 17, am I right in thinking itll be ok for the job mentioned???
