About Me
Born and bred in mid-Wales where I grew up around a number of farms, all of which I ended up working on at some point. I was taken plinking whilst on holiday at Oban, Scotland at the age of 8 years old, that was my first taste of air rifles; also on the same holiday I was allowed to take the farms cairn terrier out bushing. Catching rabbits up in the hills was brilliant although all caught had myxomatosis. From then on I used air rifles more and more, moving onto my first shotgun, a Baikal 12 bore single barrel ejector. Helped out on the local fox hunts, hounds to guns with the occasional dig. Was allowed to keep the head of a fox that was dug to, and I cleaned it up and kept it at home.
Became more and more interested in fishing as well, trout in the streams and riverson worm or other baits. Char and trout in the lakes to the fly. Beach and boat fishing off Aberystwyth, crewing for a friend on a charter fishing boat during holidays.
More recently managed to get my FAC to complement my air rifle, however where I am there is not the same amount of need for culling rabbits so most of my shooting is done purely for the pot now. Occasionally serious culling is done with the resulting stock given to local butchers and any friends who like rabbit.
Hoping now to get a Plummer pup soon as a flushing, ratting companion dog, and see how we fare with that.....
