First flight of the season. The dog worked brilliantly, my shooting was rusty at best. Did get a left and right (with one barrel?) though, despite the camera only catching one retrieve. The camera was away when the geese came over. Although warm, it was just nice to be on the marsh, listening to the birds, watching the tide race in, and seeing a flight of ducks. A bird in the bag is a bonus.

Need some advice as I'm scratching my head with this. Pup is a 6 month old springer. When I throw a short retrieve indoors she returns it 99% of the time straight away. She's also pretty good at retrieving a thrown ball or toy in the garden. But when we play-hunt in the garden she gets so excited that when she "finds" the ball she runs off with it and simply won't bring it back to me - she runs off and stays away. Is this a case of too much excitement/stimulation? I'm presuming that she will calm down and focus more as she gets older. Any tips to discourage this behaviour so that it doesn't become a habit in future? I'd appreciate any pearls of wisdom from PW.

Hello all, You may or may not remember me asking about introducing gun noise on here, but just to follow up on that my pup is now 100% fine and will sit next ti me in the hide whilst I bang away. We did 8 hours without so much of a flinch! My question is; When you have dead birds in the pattern and you send your dog to retrieve the one shot, how do you differentiate between a pattern bird and the one you want them to bring back? I did think about the dog marking the bird but when inside the hide this must be difficult?? Just an FYI we are in the early stages of fully retrieving under gun fire so please bare in mind she is 11 months old. Thanks in advance, BRNDL
