  1. Hiya everyone, I’ve always wanted to become a gamekeeper, I’m in love with the countryside and country sports. I’m thinking of becoming a grouse keeper in the future and have a course waiting for me and Newton Rigg this year in September. My questions are: whats the difference between and under keeper and a Gamekeeper? will I have my own cottage or house when I start work or is it shared? Thanks, Nathan
  2. Hello My name is Paul, i am 20 years old and i am from Grimsby in Lincolnshire. I have recently had an interview for a Gamekeeping Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college in Yorkshire and I have been offered a place so long as i can find employment but being in the north east Lincolnshire area Gamekeepers seem to be few and far between, i have contacted the major local estate (brocklesby estate which is owned by the Earl of Yarborough) and some smaller estates ran by farmers and the only replies i seem to be getting are "we aren't looking to employ anyone else" which is fair enough but also rather disappointing but hey, what can you do. I am posting here to see if there are any people out there that may know someone that could take me on or actually take me on themselves in or around the Grimsby area?(30 mile radius) I have experience in: - organised shoots as I was a beater at my local shoot (no gamekeeper, it is ran by volunteers) - pest control as I often shoot pigeons and rabbits for the local farmer. - Handling rifles and shotguns I can drive so transport is no problem. I am looking to work within a 25-30 mile radius of Grimsby. The employer has a possibility of gaining a £1500 grant if they take me on which is provided by the college (the government have the final say however as it goes through them + Terms and conditions apply) I am willing to do trial runs I can do voluntary work to gain experience. If there is anyone out there that will be able to help me it would be more than appreciated. If anyone has any offers or information then please contact me via my email - Pldiplock@gmail.com
  3. hi there im after a job preferably as a beat keeper anywhere in uk. I have two years experience as a beat keeper. Beatkeeper spring 2011 – april 2013 I started at the Brigands as an Underkeeper after starting a college course at Walford & North Shropshire College in 2011. Here my main responsibilities were helping rearing on the Bettws Hall Game farm and releasing pheasants as well as pest and predator control. I was working underneath a beat keeper on the estate looking after 35,000 pheasants and a few hundred partridge. Since 2011 I have also contributed to the habitat management of the Estate by continually managing existing woodland. In 2012 I was promoted to a beat keeper, looking after 13000 pheasants with two drives that both went extremely well over the shooting season. During this period I successfully reared and released these pheasants to the best of my capability to give them the best chance of survival. i have various Qualifications Walford and North Shropshire College 2010 – 2013. ATV Handling and Basic Maintenance 2010. Night Shooting Safety 2012. Game Meat Hygiene (Large and Small) 2012. First Aid Certificate 2012. Chainsaw 30 and 31 felling, cross cutting and maintenance. 2012 Mule/ATV handling and maintenance. 2011 Shotgun licence. Firearms licence - .243 and .22 Full UK driving licence. for more info please feel free to ask question and pm me for more details.
