  1. Evening everyone, Reece Langford based in east and West Yorkshire, I have been decoying pigeons for three years now and been shooting game since 16. so with three years experience decoying I would say I am relatively new to the sport. i feel the need to reach out for help as I have endless amounts of oilseed rape year on year that needs decoying, I just don’t seem to have the luck or the numbers that I need. with the experience behind me I do put time into reconnaissance and study the flight lines as that is not the problem. the problem I fear is my decoying method and my inexperience of knowing about what to do in what situation. i have been out in a 70ac field of oilseed rape surrounded by trees today, I set my hide and decoys and my magnet up about 21yards away from the flight line into a wood , I put 12 decoys out with the magnet past the decoys so they had to cross the plastic decoys to get to the magnet which I was always lead to believe this was correct , the decoys were all head into wind in a V shape. the reason I didn’t set up directly on the flight line as I was afraid the shots would echo down the flight line and scare the pigeons away.? the pigeons particularly in this field have been in large groups of 100 plus going from 1 wood to another not really committed to feed, however most of this afternoon when feeding they have been landing away from my decoys and they haven’t even been interested in the decoys or magnet. this situation I am describing seems to be happening to me on a regular basis now and is getting a bit disheartening in the fact I may be doing something wrong and just want to do a good job for the land owners as they are destroying my crops. do I need more decoys, do I need to use the flapper and magnet or not at all? Do I need to do something different with my decoy pattern? Is my location wrong? any help from you experts out there would be really grateful as I love this sport and when it goes well it provides some really good practice and it keeps these crops safe and also provides me with game for my dealer. thanks everyone Reece.
  2. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any books aimed at shooting crows/corvids? Or if anyone could give me some information on where or on what crops/fields/raptor decoy is best to shoot them for each different time of the year? Thanks
  3. Hi there, I'll put a little AA swing on this. Hi, I'm Matthew, I'm a shootaholic, and I need help. I'll apologise for the length of this post in advance. Just to give a little background, guns in general have interested me for years, I've shot numerous times in Estonia where I used to work (carbines, long range rifles, handguns, shotguns), and recently have shot clay pigeon over here. I must say it's quite addictive, and I'm seriously considering it as a weekend hobby. I live in Milton Keynes, and am lucky enough to have the resources to reach to buying a new or used trap gun like an MK38 1. Where I fall flat is that because I'm new to trap shooting, I don't know much and don't want to rush in thinking I know it all after reading a few sites. So, here's the questions: - I recently shot at York Gate in Otley (Rob was great), and I think the gun was an MK38. It felt quite good, but its my fist trap gun so have no basis for comparison. Would the MK38 be a good starter gun to keep for quite a while if it fits me well? - I've read into chokes, and understand them now, but am unclear if going for a gun like an MK70 would be more beneficial giving me more choke options in the future. I'm presuming the full and 3/4 are selected for trap for an accuracy reason and therefore the MK38 for ONLY trap would be best. - How does the firearms application process work? I've seen the form online, but do I need to get trained up and have references first? - After I have the license and gun, whats a reasonably priced legal gun case for home storage? and does it have to be screwed into a brick wall or concrete floor? I have a plaster board house, any ideas on best solution? - I'm unclear how you actually go shooting at the clubs. Do you have to bring your own shells, or do you just bring yourself+gun and pay for shells and clays there? - What's the best club around milton keynes that offers a reasonable site and prices? I've heard of Sherington. - Roughly how much does it cost to go shooting at a reasonably priced site? For say 50 or 100 clays (not sure how much you'd go through on average, the 25 i shot York Gate seemed to go very quickly). Thanks in advance guys, really excited about this being a potential new hobby, so any help is appreciated.
