Feeding stations

Recommended Posts

Have these all over the shoot .

Simple to make and gravity feed from a big blue drum .

10 feet of hose and stick one end in the barrel and suck the water through before attaching to drinker .

Any decent trough or water holder will do .(I had surplus 5 gallon drums )

Cheers nipper

They do look simple to make right enough

Gettin the Barrels are the problem though (am no wanting to pay fer em !)

Check out the nearest industrial site near you or food processing plants ? Quite a lot of them use blue barrels and will either give them away or sell them cheap . Mine were a fiver a piece and will last for twenty years !!!!!

You only have to pay for them once ! If you leave the shoot you can take them with you !!!(or sell them to the next guy )

Solway feeders sell a low pressure float valve ideal for this type of drinker for less than £3 each.

Birds will wander for food, water, and grit. Many shoots get the food right, but forget about water and grit. Try to create pheasant service stations, food, water grit, sunny spot + cover.

I have water by every single feeder- 20+ which are half cut chemical spray barrels. Its been sooooo dry around here without water= no pheasants.

Many thanks

Alex

I once made the mistake of thinking Of digging out a bucket shaped hole, and planting the half bucket so it wouldn't get kicked over. Next morning it had about 20 mice in it (it was in a maize field)

These are the type I used to make with the float out of broken chick drinkers.

They use the small bore pipe and work very well, but not as robust as the bigger ones .

I still have one or two hanging about the place ,they have lasted ten years so far !!

At the back you can see the small 12v electric pump and the tank I use to cart the water about .The pump connects to the vehicle battery.
