robmiller
Right, here goes. I am looking to travel to the south of england and purchase a rifle then fly back to the north east. It would be the most time efficient way for me to fly. (forget RFD at the minute) Does anyone know if it possible to transport a firearms and ammunition on internal flights? Billy.
Yes. Just produce your licence at the check in desk. Do check the airline will accept firearms, just ignore the usual bit about the usual thing they point at when you hand your bags in. Best bet is to ring your airline, in fact. The funniest thing is that you'll have to take ammunition on as hand luggage, as the gun and ammo can't both be in the hold. Make sure you get to the airport with an extra half hour on hand, as they will make you take your gun out of its case and closely inspect it. I know for a fact that Virgin will let you take firearms on their flights.
Heladoxa
DON'T MAKE ANY JOKES! My daughter worked at Gatwick and some half ****** idiot was asked if he had anything to declare. He told them, Yeah, pound of Semtex, Har Har Har! Next thing he was surrounded by six very big and very heavily armed men in blue who insisted that he come for a very interesting chat without tea and biscuits. I walked to check in and said to the lady that I have two firearms and here is my licence for them. She got on the phone and two armed officers and an airport worker escorted me to an area behind check in. They inspected the guns and checked they were correctly sealed and locked. Then searched my ammo box and escorted me through to baggage check. You get a lovely big sticker saying "FIREARM" stuck on the gun cases. Oh and that was with Easyjet flying to Scotland. dieseldogg
All history I appreciate But I used to fly back and forth from Ni to the mainland in the 1980's complete with target rifles ( .22 & 7.62) I think I recall that on occassion I only notified them on arrival at check in With no problems Some unintended fun though Like arriving at Heathrow Ex Aldergrove having checked in two gun cases One with a rifle in One empty ( bringing a rifle back) Like headless chicken they were trying to find the missing rifle Just about managed to keep my face straight Then on a return journey to NI Went to Security to reclaim my rifle Blank faces etc etc.....enquiries made by phone .......still blank faces I wandered back to the now deserted luggage carousel and there it was merrily going round in circles lonely and unloved and certaunly unattended doh indeed And we wont mention the newly issued NI FAC with no ammo purchased/entered and me in possossion of 500 rds at Heathrow airport Special branch type could not make head nor tail of the unfamiliar FAC read the bit where it said I was entitled to purchase 500 rds and decided that it was all in order Ah the innocence of my youth Edited September 29, 2009 by dieseldogg
