MM
not a lot of tope action ever in the mersey. this time of year, a good smattering of thornbacks have been taken from the beach, with good numbers from the boats. chance of an early cod. i would use lots of black lug, wrapped in a whole squid. lay off the fish baits, as there are a few dogs about. take a few scratching rigs, for slack water, as there are some nice flatties and whiting about Tuskar is a good boat, with lots of room. take a small drink of something for your tea as it can get cold out there, even on a nice day. (float suit is a must as well). Edited October 2, 2009 by MM

mikky
mm...nice fish....do you stay in the mersey or go out over the wrecks,i will be up tiding off the boat,no i hav'nt got a bait pump.looks like i will have to ask the skipper, some of the people i am going with hav'nt been out on a boat before, never mind fished off one......10 hrs on a first trip...could be interesting, whats the best end tackle for the thornies ? mikky
MM
just use 20lb straight through, with a sliding boom. 7 or 8 oz should hold bottom. i would use a 4ft hook length with a 6/0 or 8/0 sakuma. If you can get down the day before, ill take you out to pump some fresh lug. I have a spare pump, so a lesson and some free bait will do you. Ive also got some razors you can have if you want them. As its my home river, id like to see you catch some good fish when your here.
