Cosd
The arms on my magnet are the fixed type and are quite short compared to some of the more expensive machines I've seen. So decided to do some work on mine to make them extend and to get around the problem of the top of the arm which always gets caught or snags during transportation. Bought some 10mm steel tube, and with some cutting and welding I made the arms folding and telescopic. SORRY ABOUT THE PICTURE QUALITY BUT IT WOULDN'T LET ME UPLOAD BETTER QUALITY Base that slots onto the magnet was cut from the original arm and welded to the steel tube: Drilled a hole in the steel tube, welded a nut over the hole and added a thumb screw to hold the extended arm in place. The most annoying thing about transporting magnet arms is the top of the arm which sticks out at right angles, it gets caught, snags and scratches anything that goes near it. Designed this with a friend of mine so that the top of the arm folds down: Top of arm in open and locked position Top of arm in folded position And finally both arms, now telescopic which extend from their original 1.2m to 2.1m, and the folding tops for ease of transportation. Now I can carry these either in my hide pole bag or in the pockets of my large carry all bag. All thats left is to cover them in camo tape and get them out in the field. Cheers Mate!! DIY will be completely done and dusted by Xmas. Been getting out, not quite as much as I'd like because of the house, but getting to the end now. Still looking and trying for my own permision, but I've met some great people on here who have taken me out and I can go to a couple of friends permisions on my own if I want to as well. Still loving the sport, still love making things :good:
