basically i don't drive and i've been struggling to find land locally and have tried most places within a sensible distance, there is a council owned landfill within a few miles of me and was wondering if its worth getting in touch with the council or if its a lost cause, i always see loads of crows over that direction a think it maybe worth a shout.

im a basc member so insured but was wondering if that would be ok for the council, any advice would be much appreciated

Used to buy sporting rights from the council on two farms..but wouldnt know about other areas...lot may dep on your council...if its lab they may not play ball . Found it was very cheap though paid £60 for two farms for the year , but they were to well poached by farmers mates and the likes to be viable , get what you pay for I supose

A lot will depend on what Council it is! here in Brighton we have a Labour Council and they have a strict No Hunting policy :)

I have got and am also getting more land to fly my birds on as I have told them they don't hunt intentionally as I up their weight so they don't need to hunt :lol:

never even crossed my mind i didn't think there would be too many council owned farms round this way ill ask when i ring about the landfill

Landfill sites will have a pest control company working there. Them and the Site Manager is who I would contact and see if you can get permission to shoot there after working hours.

cheers mate :)

Ask some of your local farmers if they know any one renting council land and what conditions are imposed I think you would more likely get a sympathetic ear from farmers

for offering a free vermin control service. :whistling:

i emailed the council and they've passed it to the relevent dept and given me a ref number i made sure i put about getting my FEO to check all land to ensure the suitability for each cal and general safety and put about BASC insurance and wrote all my licence numbers and basc number just to make it look a bit more official, i put that i was offering a free of charge service to control vermin on council owned property such as council tennant farms, sports fields around landfills or other suitable areas, hopefully i might get something out of it and if not at least i've tried.

My uncle shoots a local council crematourium but it's certain hours so give it a try and keep sending letters to local farmers / landowners as they can only say no

not too sure about shooting in a crem mate i've only got a shot guns and .22lr i don't fancy chippin head stones i could probably get away with my fully mod'd .410 i suppose.

i should be getting permission to shoot a private schools fields theres a railway enbankment runs straight along the back of it all and loads of rabbits by the looks of it so fingers crossed, im just waiting for the head to get back after half term my land owners consent form is on his desk, apparently he was impressed it had the police crest on it he thought it looked more official so thats maybe worth me baring in mind with the council ill print some more off i think.

i've tried the local farms within walking distance i don't drive so try to keep my shooting within 3-5miles if possible but if no luck will look further afield but it means relying on lifts and its not always practical my wife does varying shifts so its not fair to ask her to pick me up gone midnight if she's up early.
