welshwarrior
I have a lovely shotgun but with plain light walnut. I will dye the wood darker but I want to add figure. I have heard of tiger striping with a blow torch and indian ink. What have people done before that worked/looked good and how do you do it. Someone help me please The plain Jane stock below. Marcus
Whats the current finish? Stripping down to bare wood then oiling will increase the contrast between the grain.
welshwarrior
Its an oiled Finish I was going to use alaknet root to dye/stain it a darker reddy colour the oil the stock with tru oil but want more figure if that makes sense. JSR you have been far to helpful already I couldn't put you out.

welshwarrior
So to get this right in my head (and for others to see) 1. Strip the oil finish off the stock. 2. Cut an alluminium plate template of the figure you want add to the stock. 3. Gently heat the stock in the template gap with a blow lamp, until the wood turns brown. 4. lightly sand. 5. Stain the stock with alanaket root stain. 6. Refinish with tru-oil. Hope I have this right.
