Can any one please tell me a way of preserving pelts,tails from squirrles upto foxes, I have heard that you can soak them in methalated spirits how true this is i don't no, but if it is how long for.Thanks ...... HAMMY Posted August 3, 2005 Report Share Posted August 3, 2005 Borax and Alum Crystals/powder mixed with water, leave for a few days then pin out to dry. Can't remember exactly the mix but used to work for me, 20 years ago! When I was in to tying my own flys. Probably someone on here who does a bit of Taxidermy shall give you some help. bobt Posted August 5, 2005 Report Share Posted August 5, 2005 use Diesel and Bi carb, mix into a paste,like salad cream, peg skin out on a board covered in polythene, paint on, leave outside vertical to dry, when dry give a second coat, the skin is cured when second coat is dry, dampen with plain diesel let it dry, brush with a wire brush to finish stand back and admire etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
