Scotch Crow call. Out of the box review.

Recommended Posts

Does any one use one of these ?

I've now got over 20 crow calls collected over the last year ready for this comparison.

With all of them I'm doing an out of the box review, then I'm doing a sound check.

I've not used a crow call before & there's quite a few Crows on my permissions.

After my out of the box reviews I'm takeing them all over the field, reading the instructions & going to try them out all in one video for comparison.

Then after a bit of practice I'm going to try them all out & keep the best.

Hands up all those that's seen videos of someone huffing & puffing down a Crow call while loadsa Crows circle overhead with guns blasting away.

Can the crows hear the calls above their mates squawking all around them & with the gun fire as well, are they even takeing any notice ?

Those that shoot Crows will know they react like that without a call being used anyway.

My intention is to find a call that will pull in the odd lone crow or three that's available when out shooting on my patch.

If you have a Crow call that's good I'd like to hear about it.

Likewise any you have that sounds more like a Duck than a Crow.

If your looking for a call that works & not a waste of money, the videos that follow this one might prove interesting.

They might not.

Depends what happens when the weather clears up & I take them over the field.

Remember one important thing.

I havn't a clue what I'm doing, I'm just going to read the instructions & try them out.

I've no intention of telling you what call is best & expect you to spend money on my advice.

Boreing to all the experts, hopefully not so to anyone who, like me hasn't a clue.

iScarecrow, i see your point, but wouldn't it makes sense just to give it a blow as per instructions when you're reviewing it.

Not to call crows in, but just to give an example of what it sounds like.

I agree with you, worth properly reviewing in the field to actually call some in, rather than film a load overhead already.

But you really should give an example of what they sound like when you take them out of the box.

It's not a criticism merely a suggestion.

An if you haven't already, get hold of on of Sam Neyt's Crow Calls - Corvussam on here.

Best i've heard - and designed for the European crows as opposed the American ones - it's a noticeable difference.

Good point Nick.

The one way I'm looking at this build up of a Crow call library is a first look from a buyers point is on the net or in the shop.

Useually these are in sealed packs or simply can't be tried first anyway.

Over time when finnished there will be a here's what they look like & here's what they sound like comparison.

When the sound vids are finnished it will become very apparent that some are Duck calls a far as beginers are concerned.

Here''s the 2nd in the planned series below.

With so many calls on the market It's easy to get a DuFF one.

Sam from Belgium has a good call & a good video.

The price is quite high though.

I'm very tempted to buy one.

I'll see what the others are going to sound like first.

I think I did see Sams video and i thought the sound from his calls were very good.

But I brought a Primo extra loud crow call and to be honest I am very pleased with that one at present, but would be interested in hearing the sound of these you have looked at so far when you are ready.

I just cant imagine the sound from them at present in relation to the sound when you use the calls you blow into

i have tried a ucaller, early on in the year and i seen some crows feeding in another field.so switch the ucalller on and and you should have seen the crows appear and go berserk! :good: ,tried the same with the magpie caller...same result.! :o ..i did not intend shooting, just to see if the ucaller would work and low and behold it did..must be honest though,as that was the only time i tried and sold it later..if i had put a decoy crow or magpie out, then maybe i could have got them to land but, they just flew overhead squaking madly...this was all done for testing and not for shooting them..

As an update I have filmed the first stage of the "sound" videos.

Now I just need to edit.

Unfortunately I'm makeing up the rules as I go along, if you understand, I simply don't know what to expect.

I can tell you though all crow calls are not equal & some would make great Duck calls.

Now the weather is drying up I'm able to get out & get on with it.

A long long road to travel.

When the out of the box ones are finnished the sound ones will take much more time to ediit so they will take some time compared.

Better get the shotty oiled.

There's some Crows to be had.

I hope so anyway.

The last of the out of the box ones done.

Good, bad & ugly ?

If you was shopping online or in your local what would you choose ?

You can't demo them, no idea what they sound like, hard choice isn't it.

so exciting that video it just made me want to jump out of my chair and run to the shop and buy one, NOT what alot of p.sh :good:

Couldn't agree more.

But you have totally missed the point.

With a choice of different crow calls that you can't try before you buy you'r left with experts telling you which one is the best.

They have years of experiance practicing the art of crow calling & they want to sell you something, not inform you.

I'm a total idiot as far as Crow calls are concerned & perhaps conned by the sales talk with this is the worlds best crow call.

I've got 20 of them, all bought at RRP.

All the worlds best ?

I'm looking for the easy to use call for a beginer.

You'r most welcome to your opinion, & why not, It's a very good one but considering I've clearly stated I havn't got a clue, not trying to sell anything & there is more to come I suggest to actually read the posts fully & think about it before saying what a load of rubbish.

I'm being constructive & trying to help beginers like myself.

You on the other hand do the slap round the back of the head ranting moron in comparison without help & guidance.

Just my opinion of course so I'm equall to yourself & would love to be proved wrong, I don't mind being to look an idiot, I'll learn from it but It needs a good tutor to do that.

Any one with any experiance of buying a naff crow call & hopeing to find out what to do with it will agree.

If you have fell asleep because It's so boring tell me what will shake your limp lifeless body into interested mode.

While your at it tell me how to do it, or even show me.
