Hi

We have a 12 week old lab and we are wondering when would be a good time to introduce it to the kennel. He currently sleeps in a crate in the kitchen and we do not want it to get too spoilt.

Also what would be the best bedding for the kennel. It has a raised wooden floor with a run, would flattened cardboard boxes be suitable.

My mate told me if you put a wet dog in a kennel with bedding then the bedding ends up wet and the dog is cold all night, if theres no bedding the dog will dry off and then stay dry  Duno if its right but thats what he said lol

Depends how well the kennel is insulated and how cold it is where you tbh mate

I don't use any bedding in my kennels, they just rip any type of bedding up and drag it into the run's. They all sleep on wooden pallets.

You can put the pup in the kennel as soon as you want, if you have another dog put them in together until he gets used to the kennel.

I've a 10 week pup at mo and from 12 weeks he will start spending short periods in the outside kennels during the day. He will continue in his crate in the house untill he is 16 weeks when he will go outside full time.

I just increase the period I keep him outside over these 4 weeks. I also pair him up with one of my older dogs.

My dogs sleep on rubber flooring & don't have any bedding. Try getting hold of cow matting

ive used shredded paper but it was a pain in the a****.

i now have a platrofm 5 inch off the floor with a bit of carpet on then a bit of fleece vet bed and aslo a heat lamp on low at night when the dogs are soaked during the day from going out across the fields like they have been recently i turn the lamps on and they seem to dry quicker than my 2 yorkies in the kitchen .

however i do also pair my dogs in kennels so they have each other for warmth

id start the pup in the kennel with a good bone so that he accepts kennel = good place even put the cage in the shed as well thats what i did with one of my dogs that was used to a cage when i rehomed her !

cow matting or pig stockboard is good however wood and no bedding seems to cause hard calouses ( think thats right ) on there elbows ,

my patterdale barks all night unless she has bedding to burrow under !

best of luck
