racingfrank7
Hi all, i'm new to pigeon shooting and looking forward to doing some, a mate has lent me his gear for as long as i want (he's to busy game shooting at mo) to see if i like it and get into it before going out and buying a load of stuff I have a good amount of full bodied pigeons and some crows, a whirly gig and a hide, now what i need to know is some patterns and tips with pics or diagrams please, just so that i dont start off ******* into the wind if you get what i mean ! Also a lot say its dam good sport and its not to be knocked, where others say its to hit and miss you will spend most of your days freezing your nuts of with the odd pigeon, its not what people make out ! So what do you lot say ? Please help a newbie to decoying Ps sorry if its in wrong place

George1990
I started quite recently and got all my info off here. I'll give you the low down of what I've got from here Most important things are to go where the pigeons are - not just expect them to turn up. Look for pigeons in the air - not on the ground. Make sure you set up underneath a flightline which you will have to look out for. Don't move around in the hide, as they'll spot you a mile off. Move at the last minute. What I did and now always do is set out my decoys in a horse-shoe shape, with the wind coming from behind, and the opening of the horse shoe away from me. The pigeons should be generally facing into the wind. I set them out about 10 yards from the hide speading out to about 35-40 with about a 20 yard space between the open ends of the rough horse shoe shape. They always come and land in the middle giving brilliant shots This is just what I've read on here, but it seems to work whenever there are actually any pigeons where I shoot
stubby
another newbie advice here; apart from all the pidgeon gear, make sure you have warm clothes, especially warm socks/good boots, and some shooting gloves, can get bloody cold out there oh, and a roll of bog paper in case you get caught short....
