Delbert
Fingers crossed guys Ace my young ESS is under the knife tomorrow after a bite (soddin horseflies) he had a swelling under his chin. Two courses of antibiotics later and he still has a loose lump now shrunk down to the size of a pigeon egg. Hopefully it is just a cyst post infection but we are taking no chances it has to come out. Now I am getting nervous.

Delbert
Try not to worry. Very routine sort of job. How old is the dog? Still very young (2 years) keen as mustard and learning all the time he is the first spaniel I have had that will dive after winged ducks as we say in another 3 or 4 years he will settle down Edited November 26, 2009 by Delbert

al4x
will a scarf do it, sounds like you need a proper vets collar to stop the dog being able to scratch the wound
Delbert
The position of the wound rules out the vet collar (we keep a spare JIC).Crepe bandage and the snood will do provided we keep his pal the German Shepherd from trying to clean the wound the are close chums and routinely groom each other after a run on the fields. Delbert
We have had a phone call from the vet the results of the lump biopsy are in and Ace is in the clear as suspected the lump was a residual from infection after the horsefly bite. The little guy is in to have the stitches removed monday and the post operative swelling should go down in a short while meantime he looks like a hamster and is only having light exercise while the duck duties are falling to Remy the young Lab whose flushing style is more akin to a herd of Cape Buffalo stampeding and falling in.
