AndyCM
I bought a pair of Alan (Midland) 777 radios a while back and they work great as a pair. (Maplins £80) - they are PMR 446 All was going well until recently when I was in a team of 10 (using various radios) and the channel selected was 1.1 (one point one). My radio (maybe operator error here) did not have that option (just channel 1) - the result being I could hear all other transmissions but could not be heard (just like being at home ) I found this but it means nothing to me>> http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.ling/rad...pmr446_freq.htm So the question is have I got a model with lacking functionality in the channel selection detail or what - I am flumuxed Any help much appreciated Looking at other model specs has not helped at all, infact my head hurts :yp: Cheers AndyCM
Martin g
Im no expert andy, but you should be able to pick that channel up. Besides your normal 8 channels you will have sub channels, normally 1-38.. I guess when you are looking at the screen it will show 1 and also 0 in smaller text. When you select your 1 there should be the option to select sub channel after on the menu.. hope this is of some help..
radio1ham
hello andy the chances why you werent heard is because the othe radios are using 1.1 the .1 which some people refer to as another channel is actually a sub auditable tone ( ctcss squelch) which means if they using that channel 1.1 you will hear them no problem but as for hearing you they wont maybe you will need a radio with the sub channels as some call them hope this helps andy
welshwarrior
Most of these types of public radios work in 1 of to frequency bands either 146 or 446 Mhz the channels will relate to frequencies in this. If you have cheap radios they will only have say 8 Channels on the main frequencys the more expensive one have sub channels that can tune in to a low Hz setting. If you are slightly out on a freq you may get a difficult messaged passed but the other station may not hear you reply. The instruction mannual should say what freqs area on what channel then you just need to pick a freq both radio types can use.
AndyCM
Hi Guys, thank you for your help - having now found the manual & looked at the advice above I think we have a classic case of pilot error A bit of testing to confirm my hunch.....
