wymberley
Hi, Guys, I've hit a problem with the topic title and description and I won't bore you all. Is there anyone who loads 222 50gr using those tables and that powder? If so, please sing out! Many thanks, Phil
wymberley
Fister, thanks, mate. Used "Modern Reloading" to pick powder. H 4198 gave good room for manouvre with min OAL. Bought some along with dies (I shoot 223, am loading, in his presence, for a mate) Got home and found tables enclosed with dies were different. Minor difference in charge weight (no problem, don't want full anyway) but the OAL was way different (longer) as was the velocity (slower). Your reference agrees with info with dies so I'll just have to accept that that is correct and work around it. Again, thanks, Phil

wymberley
6br, thanks. You've nailed it; the only difference between us is that I'm using vmax. The book said min.o.l. was what you said so I was going to load several lengths up to the 2.130. I know the min.o.l. refers to the max. load but (bearing in mind it's not me pulling the trigger) it's progressive in as much as you can't stuff the bullet in below that as far with almost a full charge as you can with, say, the starting load. However, thanks to fixer, I find the min. o.l. is 2.130. The trouble is that matey lives quite a way away so I was hoping to send him off with a good selection of variants to pick the most accurate so from then on we just load that particular one. Just so you can understand where I'm coming from, the book says max charge of 20gr for 3306ft/sec with m.o.l. 2.040. However, all's well that ends well. The Sako rounds (bought) were 3200 ft/sec and I was trying to match it but I have discovered that the vmax has a far superior B.C. Consequently, even if I start off with a lower M.V. than than the Sako, the vmax shoots flatter and is faster down-range where it matters. Thanks again, Phil
6br
hi phil what I do is get the moabl bullet touching the lands then work the load up slowly .5 gr increasements every 3 shot groups to maximum load, look at your primers starting to flatten as you approach maximum load then play with the seating depth, seating the bullet 10 thou deeper every 3 shot test rounds start H4198,= 18gr= 50gr v-max bullet touching lands, and shoot 3 shot groups. 3x18, 3x18.5 3x19 3x19.5 3x20 3x20.5 see what load shoots the best groups than seat the bullet 10 thou deeper every 3 shot, 3x10 thou off lands 3x20 3x30 3x40 your rifle will tell you what it likes cheers 6br.
