sleekspook
I am in the process of applying for my FAC (I already have a shotgun certificate) as I am looking at buying a Gunpower SSS. Does anyone have any experience of these guns and did you have any problems convincing your local firearms Licencing Officer why you needed it. I will use it for target shooting and rabbitting beyond distances I am accurate with my shotgun. I have read up on these on the internet but would like some honest opinions. Thanks in advance. Ali-C
They aren't brilliant unless they have had work done tbh, if you want to fiddle they are a tuners dream as they are stupidly simple. However, if you don't want to spend extra money and time tuning it you would be better off going for a Theoben Rapid or Daystate Airwolf or Air Ranger for FAC power. You could also look at the Weihrauch HW100 (full length version), Air Arms S410 Xtra and FX Gladiator/Verminator if you want something a little different. You shouldn't have any problems getting FAC air, if he asks why, just say you would use it on land that is unsutible for rimfire or shotgun as it is too small, or there are people living close by (noise) etc. Edit: One more point, what distances where you thinking of using FAC air at? I've dropped rabbits at a good 55 to 60 yards with 30 gram number 6 loads and full choke from a 12 guage, and I wouldn't really consider using FAC air beyond that range tbh, simply because you are firing a very light projectile and the slightest bit of wind will affect it hugely at that distance. sleekspook
Thanks Ali. TBH one of the big factors was the price. I do like the Air Wolf, just the price puts me off a bit and it is 20FPS lower power than the SSS. I wouldn't mind tuning it to make it a bit special too. As for using it, my lad is into Target shooting so I could do a bit with him. (and have a better gun ) and I am not as keen a shot as you by the sounds of it. I think age is dulling my accuracy reaction times LOL. I don't really shoot rabbits with the shotgun, mainly duck's and Pigeons on our Fishery but my mate has a large farm where I shoot Pigeons and he has a BIG Rabbit problem so wanted to to have a bash with an air rifle which would hopefully be a bit lighter to lug around than my O/U. You've got me thinking now though. Thanks again mate!!
