how to choose a scope?

Hi,

I have had a FAC for about 6 months, i bought a CZ .22rf off samf from pigeon watch and it has been fantastic (cheers mate). He even sent me a spare mag! I bought a hawke nite-eye scope for the rifle just because id always fancied one but couldnt really justify one on an air rifle!

I have been pleased with the scope although POI does change a bit when you zoom in and out so i just leave it at 6x mag now, and two shots are never in the same place so the mill dot has only been a rough guide. I have applied for a variation and have spoken to my FEO who says there wont be a problem and the cert should be back soon. The variation is for a .22-250 to shoot foxes on the farm i live and work on. The rimfire has accounted for 7 foxes so far all closer that 50 yards and my 10 bore (bought off Tommo on here - legend!) has accounted for a good few more (including the little TW*T that broke into my co-workers shed and killed 28 of their 42 Turkies two nights ago, a few days before they were going to kill them and all already sold at over £40 each!!)

I would like to buy a decent scope for the .22-250 which if it has any features such as a stepped reticule or whatever the term is, are right for the gun and are going to be useful for the job i want it for.

Could you please advise me on the make and rough magnification i should look for, also wheather it should be fixed mag because i cant risk any changes in POI at greater ranges. Also what mounts should i buy now that recoil is going to be an issue? i have seen centre fire rifles which have way stronger mounts than the ones im used to they look like they are made of steel rather than the light alloy ones i have - is this right?

cheers! SP
