roadkill
I would like some advice , Im thinking about taking my lab beating tomorrow and would like other peoples opinions . My lab is 10 months old and is very well behaved . I only want to take her for a day out instead of her being stuck at home in the kennel but i dont want to ruin her . She will not be expected to pick up any game or will i work her in any cover i just want to have her out on her lead just for a day out . The shoot only has 6 drives and were lucky if we get 30 birds so not that much game about . Should i take her or leave her at home?
Ballymac
take her as long as she is under your control amd she sees other dogs working I can't see what harm it would do.
UKPoacher
Agreed. Only let the dog off the lead if you have a <<near>> 100% recall or the drive is over and there can be no harm done. Beating is the ultimate test of the 'stop' or 'recall'
bobbo
keep on the lead for the first few times but when your on your own keep tight as possible constantly peep peeping then you can start walking with the lead drapped on her so she feels the prescense then it will know to heel all the time. roadkill
back at home now and im 100% pleased with her . She has had a great day and is now very tired she even went in the pond at the end of the day to retrieve a pheasant . Couldnt of asked for more . The game keeper and owner both said how well she had done today . So as a treat i let her into the house for a good three hours curled up next to the radiator before putting her in the kennel

UKPoacher
When the shoot gaffers are happy with your dog you know that you are on the right road to success. Well done!
