hookbones
i needed a stick for beating so i saw a guy selling them on ebay, he lived about a mile from me so i mailed him and arranged to go see his wears.. the guys a keeper and we talked shooting for a while had a brew or 2 b4 we got to talking sticks.i wanted something quite long and with a forward canted fork <moon on a stick me> so ron turns to me an says "i could sell u a stick or make u whatever u want but im not gonna, instead im gonna give u 2x everything u need and ur gonna make it cos that stick will be worth far more than 1 i make u".. i raced home and with a head full of advice set to work... 1 of the 2 shafts had an unusual lightning like shape to it at the bottom quater so i chose that 1 and stared at the 3 pronged hunk of antler i had been given trying to see the right handle in it. once id decided what part to use i chopped/drilled/filed n fitted . i had a long portion down the side that was expossed antler heart so i shaped n fitted some buffalo horn to cover it,on the front i fitted a brass plaque that came off my grandads rotted leg o mutton case and hung 2x 22rf brasses that were the 1st rounds i ever shot into which i stuck some of the feathers from the 1st silver pheasant i shot... i am very pleased with it but it has so many things to it that my firsts or sentimentally significant i cant beat with it.. oh n the off cut of antler was drilled to a 3rd length filled with lead and i hand sawed/shaped n polished a brass plate for the end to make a really nice priest..<seen in photo> i took the other shaft fitted a brass disc and a buffalo lyre head along with a leather thong n antler end as a tapper so i do have a stick im willing to use. so a heart felt thanx to ron cos without ur advice n gifted materials id have just bought a stick n that would be that cheers...steve i should add i bound above n bellow the brass collar in green waxed cord as a grip point

gixer1
great stick but one observation, it always strikes me as odd that sticks are made for beating (i.e.- walking around in rough terrain) and people put a sharp pointed object on the top! be careful you do not slip and fall and end up impaled on your own stick!!! hookbones
ahhhhh hence the forward cant on the head + it`ll fish out a bird from the pond or thick cover in a claw like way... it also works as a rifle rest too. the other stick i made is a thumb stick that i dont put my thumb in as i knew a fella that snapped his thumb getting down a muddy bank
