Colster
On the way to go lamping the other night I was discussing deer with my shooting buddy, more specifically salt licks. I asked whether the rabbits went after the licks and he said they were always put higher up on trees out of the reach of bunnies but he wasn't sure how much damage bunnies would actually do to them if they were lower down. Then at the end of a not exactly productive night (only 1 bunny to show for our efforts) as we were driving back we noticed a fair number of rabbits sitting at the side of the road, nibbling the very edge of the grass verge where the snow didn't cover and it got me thinking whether this ruse would work: Get over on to your permission during the afternoon and sprinkle some salt liberally on the ground near some active warrens. When you return after dark the salt should have melted the snow leaving the only bare patch of grass on the field but I'm not sure whether the rabbits would be encouraged by the salt or repelled by it. Anyone ever tried anything like this?
