DoubleTap
Just go back from duck and goose shooting on some land owned by a friend. It is a grass field with a river running next to it that floods the field. He gets Mallard, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Shoveler and Canada's into the flooded land We arrived at 15:00pm and drove down to the field and got our gear ready, another friend was going to meet us down there a bit later. As we walked into the field there were 4 mallard sat on the water and two swans. We walked to our hides and sat down talking until the other guy came. We probably stood talking for an hour before getting into our hides and loading up. The ducks were going to come from lakes behind us and geese from inront of us. The first ducks showed at the same time as the geese, my brother and I (sharing a hide) were watching two mallard fly around whilst dad was blowing the goose call ... little did we know that there was a skein of geese coming out infront. My brother spotted them about 100yds away so then it was a rush to change over to goose cartridges. The Geese went wide of us so then we changed back to duck cartridges, but soon another skein was in the air so then another rush of cartridge change. This skein flew straight over dad and my friend then a bang shortly followed by another three bangs, 2 geese fell, one each. After all that excitement we calmed ourselves down by shooting at some ducks, killing the occasional one or two, we did this for about fifteen minutes until the geese were back on the wing. This skein also went wide of my brother and I however dad and my friend managed to drop two more and then followed up by another shot as they were flying over my other friend across the water. For the rest of the night we shot teal, mallard and wigeon. The geese didnt appear until afterwards when they flew past the neighbouring field out of range Bag: 5 Teal 6 Canada's 12 Mallard 3 Gadwall 4 Wigeon Great night and cant wait to go again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You youngsters might be able to see the teal easier but us old boys can see them big ole geese! Shame the wigeon left it late. They always turn up in numbers just as it gets too dark to shoot. You might have to adjust the final bag mate as I'm out at first light looking for 3 that were unaccounted for. (unless Charlie has beaten me to them......)
