rushy lad
One of my Terriers is badly undershot but It doesn,t cause her any discomfort or hampers her when she eats etc. She is a brilliant little worker and it has crossed my mind a few times to breed off her and keep her strain going. The problem is will all the pups be undershot? My old hunting companion used to have a bitch who was the same and when he had a litter the pups were fine. He was under the impression that they sometimes missed a generation. A bit of a gamble I know. Anyone any advice on this please?
new to the flock
There are two causes to over bites and underbites, genetic the most common and enviromental the other. Do any of this bitches litter mates have an underbite? Many of the times that it does not show in a second generation is that it is being passed on through a recessive gene. It takes two recessive genes, or a recessive and a dominant gene to produce this condition. As good a worker as she is, if there is any chance that this is an inherited condition I would say DO NOT breed her.
