the pelt man
Well was out early on the rape where i had the 150 last week before the snow. I had been watching the field all week and the woodies were landing in small groups on any little bits of rape showing through the snow. I put my plan into action and laid out three large MOD Tank Nets to look like rape through the snow, then set up a decoy pattern in and around them. Well the plan worked any pigeon that showed headed straight for my pattern, the only problem was the total lack of birds. Had they all died due to the cold, They cant of. After a couple of hours and a dozen birds in the bag i packed up to take a look around the other rape fields, a little worried that all the birds were laying dead in the woods having died over night. I didn't need to worry, as i got down the back of the farm i found one of the large corriander fields was green as the stems were 50 - 60cm's tall and clear of the snow. On this field were a good 2-3000 pigeon with pigeon flying in and out. I thought Christmas had come early but it turned out i had just missed it after flaging out the far down wind side of the field i set up up wind (you know what i mean), and waited for the birds to come back in. I saw hundreds of birds all afternoon but only managed to pull in 50 or so and my shooting wernt that good today. Final bag for the day 38 picked with a good 2 dozen laying in the tall Corriander which once the birds dropped into they went under the snow Still had a good time and look forward to shooting the corriander next week so keep off SS PS: Told my Wife of my plan to use the MOD Nets to look like rape, She said ''Cant you crumble up the old loaf of bread from the kitchen and sprinkle it in the field'' After i explained the flaw in her plan she said she would like to join Pigeon Watch and give you all some of her ideas I promise to try and keep her away Cheers anyway PELTMAN Edited January 9, 2010 by the pelt man
