monkeymagic1969
.243 would be your best choice - then if you get the chance at a Roe or Fallow, you have enough gun for the job, also a very good round for foxes and other vermin( i would suggest using a 75grn bullet for most of your target species) . if was only going to be Muntjack, then i would suggest either .223 or 22-250 Edited January 22, 2010 by monkeymagic1969

monkeymagic1969
About £1.25 - £2.00 per bang - Unless your roll your own of course, then about £0.60p
eddoakley
About £1.25 - £2.00 per bang - Unless your roll your own of course, then about £0.60p home load not something ive considered. What sort of set up costs involved and how would i go about learning enough? Edd
monkeymagic1969
Set up cost Vary depending on how far you want to go with it or how much cash you want to spend - you can get Lee reloading equipment fairly cheap ( it works very well and lots swear by it) or you can go with the likes of Redding, Wilson, Sinclair etc and spend lots. As for learning, then buy a reloading manual and try to find someone local to teach the ropes.
cleaner4hire
i would also say .243 if you are only using it for fox/deer. As for cost - how many do you anticipate shooting in a year? I dont think that the difference in cost would really be an issue unless you were shooting alot of rounds
flytie
I use my 6.5x55 for both deer and foxes and if I buy federals, the last time I bought some, they cost me £1.20 a bang. That was some time ago. The last make I bought were RWS 140gn and they were £1.80 a bang. This pushed my mean button hard, so I went out and bought some reloading equipment which makes the job much more cost effective long term. There are arguments for and against the .243, but it seems to be the most popular calibre with the vast majority. Poor deluded fools that they are Tin helmet on, runs for cover ft
