shakin stevens
hi , has anybody tested this itx non toxic shot? its very much like bismuth but has an iron mix in it, so its not as brittle. looked on clay and game and american sites but has anybody tried the stuff? shakin stevens
hi ukwildfowler shoot the humber now and again when i get time , but joining holbeach or spalding again, like it on the wash humber is not much to go out! off up north for the last week of the season, going to try the itx shot and see how it goes, using a steel heavy lead powder csbo so it should be ok only 46g of shot so im sure it should be ok, i like the feel of this shot the weight is nearly like lead regards rob. UK fowler
hope the old hammer gun does you proud, was thinking of joining the humber next year is it worth the 2hr drive ?
scolopax
The Humber can be good on its day, generally plenty of greylags (and canada's early season). We do get Pinks but in nothing like the numbers using the Wash.
shakin stevens
not sure mate! i have mixed views on the humber! at the most you are just shooting a river bank, plenty of geese sometimes you need a good dog because that river trots on, and sometimes when the tide is in full flood i would not shoot anything over the water, because you may never see your dog again! has shep whites done much this year? UK fowler
im more of a duck man to be fair iv had my best year ever on 71 duck off the foreshore trying to make the tone ! theres grays off shep whites and the pinks came there on mass for about 3 weeks before the pressure moved them on .to busy for me to many people shooting and to many cowbows went inland till the crowds had moved on. no one down there now get the place to your self but you can chase those grays round all week and still not get a shot. starlight32
thanks for the reply!im going to try some through my old 10bore, its old with 3.5 inch chambers but its very tightly choked its nitro proofed but with damascus barrels so got to go steady. regards rob. I dont think your 10 has 3.5" chambers with damascas barrels, most likely 2 7/8" or if it is a quite rare old english they could be 3". shakin stevens
hi ! yes its 3.5 chambers nitro proof and damascus 33inch barrels extra full in each chamber, underleaver hammer. the make is w. richards of liverpool probably around late 1890s, passed down from my father it was face off the action, but had it repaired by an old gunsmith from doncaster . dont use it much just now again at the end of season. alot of folk say it wont be 3.5 chambers! if you look on my profile i think my mrs put a pic of the gun on. Yes richards did make a 3.5", I just looked it up. It was unusal for a gun of that era though to have 3.5" chambers. I tried ITX in 12g, though it better than Bismuth. shakin stevens
hi starlight thats why im putting itx through the old gun, it does look alot bettter than bismuth, never bothered with any other non toxic shot because i dont want ruin it by having the choke out, the gun is in top condition and a shade lighter than 8bore but does a good job with having 3.5 chambers, and i dare say they isnt many around these days.
