Mec 9000
Just take out the shot, wad and powder and re load into a primed case or post it to me and i'll do it. the problem is either a dud primer or poor firing striker in the gun. It aint a bomb till it's in the gun. Throw one in an open fire and you will hear a pop like a cap gun, a wee puff of smoke and get some melted lead when the fire goes out. John_R
At one clay ground, the guy who runs it told me he was burning some empty carts (back in the day when that was not forbidden) when a whole cartridge went off. The bang was only the primer going off just as people have said above, however it flew up and whacked him in the neck and left a little wound. Nothing too bad, but could have been an eye. You won't save much but you will get good cartridges in relation to shop prices, biggest saving now is making your own shot. I re use cases and wads if seal is undamaged. I use two Mec 9000 progressive loaders set for different loads that I use most. Great hobby Gerry

I'd be reusing cases (I have a big supply) but nothing else.. Id have to buy all the lead and wads. Would I be making a loss if I just reloaded 12bore if I did this mate? cheers

If you know what to look for, once fired wads can be re used too. You won't save much with 12g but you will have fun.
peter-peter
I was out today on the rape and took a newly starting shooter out with me, setup the decoys etc pigeons started taking them and we got 10, i then said to break his gun and i would go and pickup what we had shot and make it look abit neater due to wings sticking up, i was then looked at in horror when i put 10 carts loose into my pocket and took my pump action with me just incase i needed it as i also needed to change the banger rope in the field behind the tree line, i was told you should never put cartridges into your pocket loose as they could go off. Question is i have always done this and havn`t bothered getting myself a cartridge belt as all i ever see are brown leather ones, are cartridges really in danger of exploding loose in your pocket?? never given it any thought and have walked around for years with loose carts. a load of tripe which icidently is just as likely to explode in your pocket

Im pretty sure I could find some plas wads about, not sure what you mean by taper cases though?? No doubt itll be lots of fun! Ill start collecting as soon as I know a good cartridge then Ill have a little stock built up for when I get a press and what ever other equipment I need (have to do a lot of research as I dont know hardly anything about reloading at the mo) Cheers

Compression cases get thicker as they get to the bottom and taper in towards the primer, again cut one and have a look. The wads for PT cases should not be used for CF as they can increase pressures by ramming too tight. If you need some help PM. Gerry
