Cranfield
I had a trip out today, a couple of big flocks on my "new" rape fields, but once they were walked off, they didn,t come back in numbers. I found them later grazing clover. I did shoot 5 passing birds. I put the first two birds out on my "floaters". During one of the very long lulls between birds, I studied the decoy layout. I was amazed at how the white markings on the real birds, was a lot brighter, than on my decoys. Now a few of these are quite new, mostly (over expensive) flock covered ones, with a few (just as good) plastic ones. On the way home, I bought a small tin of, Rustins Quick Drying White Primer and Undercoat. All decoys have had a "face-lift" and look a lot more realistic. I strongly recommend this "reality comparison" check. I have no connection with Rustins Paint Co. :(

Deako
Cranfield, Glad you noticed that! This is why its so important to ensure that the neck and wing bars on your flocked decoys are left UNFLOCKED. This enables the individual to make the bars brighter/duller, as he or she desires. It also means those all important pigeon 'communicators' will be easy to restore, should they become worn. Just out of interest, on arrival in your pattern, a bird is very alert and will show a much more pronounced neck bar at this time...we like to have one or two of these pronounced 'neck' decoys in the pattern to simulate a wary bird.
