maddog546
Yesterday I call on a friend to say I had got a rabbit clearance job in on an Exclusive Golf course and that I could get him into play a round but he'd have to do it while I was lamping the rabbits!!!!!! He called me a few names and declined my offer, just then my phone rang and as his house is all granite needed to go outside for better signal, whillst in the process of writing down the details for visiting a hotel to proof for segulls,I noticed a fox across the valley and called my mate outside. As the phone call hd finished I told him of the fox and being as elusive as they can be the sodding thing had disappeared, now he thinks I'm messing round as he is due to start lambing, just then it reappears and we both comment on its size. I suggested I should have a crack at it as it was only 300 yrds away,to which he agrees with a sense of doubt on my ability at that range,I crouched down and steady myself on his trailer spare whie he watched through my binos,at that moment the fox broad sided me and I squeezed off the round watching the fox drop on the spot, what surprised us both was how long it took for the satisfy thd to come back to us. My mate was really impressed ,I then grabbed the range finder and found the fox to be 332yds away,I then left for my next job. I called today to find out if he had been across to see the damage but his wife said he had to go to work, mind you she said he hdnt shut up about it all night. Strange that it may seem I was only reading about the Steel safari challenge in Wales and thinking of having a weekend there, but perhaps I'll save my money now. maddog546
Thanks gents,it certainly is one to remember and better that I had a witness,I was using my Remy 700 SPS in 223,running Norma 50Gr ballistic tips,I have so much confidence with that rifle its unreal as I had my 270 with me aswell but as I only had Federal partitioned 130 gr rounds with me,decided on the 223. Even though the ballistics are very similar I chose to take the Fox with the 223,mine you yesterday I collected some 110Gr ballistic tips for the 270,and after having a night out on the foxes,as one keeps pinching my mole traps(obviously the ones with moles in)it was time to sort the thief out,on arriving we heard a vixen calling but going away from us,after a quick scan a fox was picked up in one of the higher fields,so up the lane to the next field and out with the U caller set to vixen. The next thing we see is a fox coming down across the field with the intention of procreation firmly on his mind,at 80 yards I squeezed of a 110Gr ballistic tip to me him, well I think it was a him as they certainly make a mess and I would sat that a fifth of the animal was spread out on the ground beside it. I didnt have the camera with me but dont think the images would be suitable for posting. The ballistics of them are very close to the 223 and slightly heavier so they will do. The last thing we saw last night were 3 Roe wandering across the top field but didnt seem to care about the light and were in no hurry to leave, mind you they were no where to be seen this morning,GREAT.
