i,ve just been cleaning one of my shotguns a rizzini fixed choke 12 gauge , and i,ve just noticed a little dent on the end of the barrel about 3 inchs before the choke starts.

looking inside i can just seen the mark/dent coming through.

i,ve had the gun a few weeks and have fired 100's of carts through it and not noticed this before.

IS this anything to worry about

on the odd occasion i have felt the gun jump slightly more on fireing but have put it down to me not holding or being used to it ( could be nothing ).any thoughts.

Any one got a dented barrel they never had a problem with , i,d rather leave it and hope for the best , BUT if its dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks lads

Darren .

I had what I took to be a similar small dent in my barrels which was presumed to be caused by stray bits of clay while the gun was in the rack. I wasn't overly concerned but took it into my dealer who got a lot more excited about it.

Needless to say he took the gun off to be sorted, didn't take long or cost much & better to be safe than sorry.

Having seen some exploded barrels at my local shooting ground I'm all up for safety first, especially as one was reckoned to be because of oil in the barrels!

Best bet pop into your local dealer/gunsmith for his professional opinion.

a small pucker as you describe will cause more of a momentry build up of pressue behind the projectile than a bit of mud or snow and most people would not try to shoot if their barrels were contaminated with mud or snow. You could end up with a bulged or burst barrel. Your local gunsmith will beable to get rid of the dents for you.

I would recommend that you stop using it and take it to your Gunsmith. He will be able to raise the dent and it should not cost you very much.

The dent will definitely cause a rise in pressure. It will also wear quicker than the rest of the barrel, so get it fixed before it causes more damage to your gun, or yourself.

All the best,

Chris.
