cuzzy
hi can anyone tell me what choke is best in my 12g escort semi for pigeon as I'm missing a few and I'm still a beginner so any thing to help my shooting will be appreciated
busdennis
dont get hung up on the choke m8 has the reason for missing, shoot within your skill level, leave high flying fast birds and wait for birds to decoy in and you will bring um down. stick the 1/4 in and get stuck in. good luck

One of my guns has multichokes, which i never change, and when I bought my last one I went for fixed chokes 1/4 and 1/2. I find that doing clays on a regular basis really helps your shooting. big simmo999
sound advice boys stick that quarter choke in and go do plenty off clays, don't shoot live birds until you are busting clays easily. also when you do shoot live birds, measure out your maximum range that you are confident of killing at and place a marker there (you can use a decoy, a stick etc) and don't shoot at a bird until it passes your marker
Goldfinger
hi can anyone tell me what choke is best in my 12g escort semi for pigeon as I'm missing a few and I'm still a beginner so any thing to help my shooting will be appreciated I still use my escort semi on occations, use 1/4 choke let them come in 25-30 mtrs and your hit rate should improve, those longer faster birds will start to drop with more practice, don't be to egar to take shot to soon let them come in.Be patient, with time and practice you will improve. wils
To my mind this is the problem with multi choke guns! with fixed choke you have no choice, therefroe you dont worry about it.....
stealthlyninja
I use 1/2 for my bottom barrel (1st shot) and 3/4 top barrel (2nd shot) Give a little lead and follow through. If you let them come in as close as you can and shoot 1/4 or 1/2 you won't go far wrong. What size shells are you using? 6 1/2 will give you more stopping power then 7 1/2. I started shooting again on Sunday after 13 years and bagged 39, but I had to change my chokes from 3/4 1st and full 2nd after missing more then I was hitting to 1/2 and 3/4. Good luck with it, happy Hunting. Edited March 9, 2010 by stealthlyninja
Terrierist
Totally agree, don't get hung up on chokes or cartridges to some extent, I drop some good birds with Eley firsts, but they are known to be a good patterning cartridge. I'd always reccomend clear pigeon 6's, pattern well and not too much recoil. All the very best Kev
