223 Rem Recipe

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am in the process of changing bullet heads for my 223 rifle (Howa 1500 Varmint) to 55g Sierra Blitzking. I have previously been using Speer TNT 55g. Factory loads have been Winchester 55g or SAKO 55g.

Can someone please give me a recipe for using the Sierras's? I don't want a rip snorting fast load, just something average that is good out to 200 yds. Also I would prefer a "common" powder that is not compressed. I have a large stock of CCI 400 primers and a mixture of Winchester and Remington brass.

Any advise is much appreciated.

Just thought I would give an update. I have reloaded with the Sierra heads and have just had a shoot at some paper. I only had time to make 20 but results with the 25.5gr Varget are excellent. I could only shoot at 70 yards and was zeroed at 100. It printed groups of 5 at just under 1" in a bit of a cross wind.

After playing around I found by bipod to be a bit loose, that is, it fell off when I put the rifle away. I am going to reload some more with 25.5gr and 26.0gr just to see the difference, if any. I recon a fox hit with one of these won't care too much!

Thanks for the info. :good:
