Tough day

I had a look aroung my pigeon shooting fields this morning. For the past week 300 had been feeding on a clover field and sure enough there was 100 on the field this morning. Before setting up a checked out a number of recently drilled fields. They held a scattering of birds , but the clover field looked best. On returning to the clover the pigeons were back on it in bigger numbers. But 3 hours later I had just one pigeon. The birds never came back. So packed up and returned to a drilled field that held birds in the morning. Not a sniff of a bird on it , but I thought I would set up as its close to a regular flight line.

The other day my game gun went wrong so I was using my Browning gold semi auto. Laying it down I set out the decoys and returned to find the dog had dug out a rabbit hole at the back of the hide and covered the gun with sand including the open chamber. I tried to strip the gun down , but the barrels would not come out of the lock so i had to clean the breach \ chambers out as best as I could. After a lot of fiddling about I got the breach to work but the magazine was jammed. I was left with a single shot gun. While the action was not fast a steady flow of pigeons came into the decoys and I ended up with 43 ( might have been 10 - 12 more if the magazine was not jammed) , plus 8 crows and a magpie. So despite the bad start and hassel with the gun it did not turn out such a bad day.
