Diceman
Can anyone give me some advice on designing and siting the perfect pattern plate? Materials? Size ? Markings? Distance from shooter? Paint to use? To my shame I have never used one, and never really looked closely at the ones I have seen, but we could do with one at the club. All advice welcome. utectok
I'd use about 4' of 6mm steel on a stand and stand no more than 20yds from the plate use White emulsion to paint all but the middle 3" square. But I'm sure others have good ideas too! Cheers will
shade695
had my first shot at the pattern plate last Sunday, had all sorts of visions of getting peppered with shot and knocked on my **** but after the shakin subsidded I took a couple of shells at it (5'x5') plate what a noise! but first shot showed me not mounting the gun properly as was too nosey to see my shot print second shell hit a marked spot we made and it's interesting to see where exactly the pattern marks and spreads, and also when you hit a nice sweet spot too , oh I was standing aprox 21 yards away by advice of the shooting coach (dont exactly know why this far away?) other than taking my head off!! libs
stand as far from it as you like, about the distance you aim to hit your targets from would be a start! You should be looking to mount the gun and point it at a mark and take the shot as soon as you see the sight picture you want. don't aim because this isn't what you do when shooting normlly! your looking for a 60/40 shot spread biased over the mark. and it's suprising how big even a .410 pattern can be at range so make it bigger rather than smaller!
