Shuck, being a tree surgeon I wouldn't have thought you would get a ricochet, obviously on small stuff but a large stump I would think will just absorb it but I may be wrong and would like to hear what others think? We have found rounds inside trees before but they have been back from the war.

I'd just not say a tree stump if I were you. As I was saying about rifle range backstops. They're usually made up of about 6-8ft of sand, which will dumped in front of a piece of dug out mud (imagine a wall of a quarry, that kind of dug out) and the land behind it, will usually not have any houses or the like for at least a mile. However this isn't always the case.

So compare that to your tree stump! It'll only take a little slip (does happen if you're shooting off the bonnet of a car) to completely miss the stump.

smartshot.... perhaps a good idea to listen to what others are saying here, and perhaps a good idea to not offer to much to the FEO when he comes to visit.

From where I stand you do not want any debates with your FEO about the merits or detail of individual safe shots!!

ATB! :)

Well that rules tree stumps out lol. Dekers I wasn't disagreeing with anybody, just seeing what peoples thoughts were and trying to get a bit more information. Good idea on not saying a lot though, I'll go for having a sore throat on the day. I'll just hav to see what happens.

I'll have to try and find a range and have a chat with some people there. Is there any websites which might show where I can find my nearest range?

Cheers
