PaulABF
Had a look out this morning at around 8am. Set up over rape which has come on leaps and bounds since I last shot it 3 weeks ago. Looking thick and lush now. At first there was nil winds and a light frost but the sun was out in a cloudless sky. Set up the magnet and a dozen shell decoys. Nothing at all for 40 mins so I moved to other end of field where there seemed to be a trickle of a flightline, set up in shadows next to an old, thick hawthorn and set out the magnet and deeks again. Within seconds I dropped a high pigeon which came in from behind, a nice solid kill. Repeated a few minutes later with another which flared almost to a standstill over the magnet. The next three I pricked in a fabulous display of fluttering feathers, like I'd burst a pillow. They all vanished over the horizon apparently none the worse for their ordeal. Over the next 2 hours they came in every 10 minutes or so. Final tally was 12 for 28 carts although one went into the stream via a hawthorn bush and I picked one up on the way back to the car which had creamed in about 300m away. All in all a very enjoyable morning. Edited April 2, 2010 by PaulABF

Maltese Falcon
Nice day out then! Good morning out. I had a wander round my permissions yesterday and yes you are right the rape is growing fast now however i think that it is not as high as it should be this time of the year due to the bad winter we had. I wonder if the harvest will be later this year ?
